my expensive day

I went shopping today.

All in all, I think I spent $1000, about half of which is on Icebreaker tops (it's all stef94's fault!) some of which was on a pair of comfy shoes and various winter clothing bits and bobs, most of which will go down to Taswegia with me.

Eh. It's expensive stuff, but good quality. I plan for them to last me another few years...assuming I don't put on more weight and end up looking like a doughboy or something.

ladysorka has an interesting post on being a virgin in the modern fandom and the attitudes towards virginity, as well as the stupidity of people who claim you're not a feminist if you're a virgin. There's quite a bit of Virgin Pride in the comments. And some UnVirgin Word, too. :)

Incidentally, I think that claiming a virgin can't be a feminist is about as bright as claiming that a person who's had kids can't be pro-choice.

Fly out of Sydney tomorrow 8:30am, arrive Taswegia 10:30am. Going diving on Friday (*gnaws nails*). Must remember uggboots 'cos it's cold down there, campers!

Yup, very thin merino wool so you can layer them for extra warmth.

What I was more thinking was that I can't wear wool next to my skin, say from a woollen jumper as it makes me all itchy, so I was wondering if this would be the same.

Not that you can find the products in too many places here, though there are a couple in my state.

Icebreaker makes their clothes out of very high quality merino, which is not itchy at all. I =love= my Icebreaker tops (and the one bottom I have for skiing). I wear it on my skin regularly, and I =hate= itchy clothing.

This stuff is perfect: warm when you need it to be, cool when you need it to be, and not itchy at all. And it doesn't smell, which is a godsent for outdoor sports and work ;-)

=Love= it, no synthetic thermal underwear can beat it for comfort or warmth :-)

Is it allergies or just the scratchiness?

My sister is actually allergic to wool and tends to break out in hives when she wears it. She says that if I ever want to kill her, I should just put a wool blanket over her face.

I don't know. It certainly irritates me when I have it next to my skin. Even in the form of woollen socks - though I can wear those that are a mix of cotton and wool. I'm pretty sure I don't break out in hives though.

So can your sister wear these things? Or is it just beyond her because she can't have wool next to her skin?

Don't know. Never tried it with her - only just got them.
