hockey stuff
We drew - our first draw this season. Which is actually quite a good result, but we really wanted to kick this team's ass. We just couldn't seem to get there.
Basically, these girls are private school bitches who get narky when they start losing.
They didn't lose this game.
They got a goal in the first half and managed to hold it all the way through 2nd half. Then, in the last 30 seconds, we got a goal - short corner from the push-in to me, back to the push-in, who passed across the goal and - after a mad scramble with our players and theirs - in!
Thank God.
They've been really shitty through the rest of the comp. We're the only team they haven't beaten...and they still haven't beaten us! But it was close.
Game-wise, we played...okay. Our usual centre-half N wasn't fully on her game, although a whole bunch of other people were - our back line did amazing things, even with all the attempts they made to get a goal in. I played okay - better than average, but I didn't feel at my best - after about two weeks of sickness, and the long weekend (when we didn't play), I'm not at my most fit. I'll get another run-around tomorrow during lunch when we play a work touch footy make-up game (we got rained out a couple weeks back).
And I need to get back to the gym. I've been incredibly lazy about my routine - too dark outside, too late, too many words to write, can't be bothered...
On the more personal side of the game, though, I think we've got some team problems. Mostly because the coach tends to keep some players on for the full game, while others regularly get subbed on and off. The players left on are the better ones, but it's still a problem.
For starters, bitterness sets in on those who are regularly called off. Particularly for this one woman who once was off the field for almost half a game with another sub
Then there's the fact that the club's a social one, not a competitive one, and while we want to win...we have been winning - and in spades. Most of our games are x-0, our way. We don't need to always have our best players on the field. We can sub them on and off. That's why we have subs!
I mean, today, I understood it. The team we played today is one of the few (possibly the only one) to score against us. But even when we're playing against the other club team in our grade who came up from the division below last year, we'd still have the 'best' players on the field for the whole game while a handful of us subbed on and off.
We've already had words with the coach about this. Two of our players were really pissed off about it.
I'm less worried - mostly because I'll take the initiative and say, "so, who should I replace?" and I can be flexible about where I play - I'm not good at half or inner, but I can do the requisite running. So they can put me in a position other than wing or centre forward and I'm there. Not fantastic, but there.
One of the players who was pissed off is pretty good - a solid defender/attacker. So now that the issue's been brought to light, she's usually subbed off and on regular.
The other player isn't as good. And has a bit of attitude. And is a mother with two kids that she has to pay someone to look after while she's playing hockey or attending training. And so she's not happy to come along and watch half a game. Which I find understandable; but I'm not paying someone fifty dollars to watch my kids for a couple of hours.
After today, I don't know if she's coming back.
If she doesn't, I'll be both sorry and relieved. Sorry because she deserved better and sorry because she could have been put in the other team in our grade and gone well there. But we stacked our team - a little too hard, actually, since we've got 17 regular players and we only need 11 on the field and are only allowed 4 subs. Ironically, the other team in our division is now down players because several of them have developed injuries - one of our team played for them this week.
Relieved because, well, if she leaves, I won't be sharing my primary position with someone else. I've been one of the on-off subs, too. Which I don't mind so much, as long as I'm not benched for most of the game and as long as everyone gets an off. Not everyone gets to sub though, not anymore.
And there's another player who gets narky when you call her off - she huffs and walks across the field, slowly, in the hope that the ball will come back to her and she'll have to run after it, and oh, she needs to keep playing because she can't leave the ball there!
*sigh*

In other news, I didn't really get any work done this weekend - system problems, login issues.
Didn't get any writing done, either. Got a little bit of reading done.
So, all in all, the weekend was a bit of a waste.
