International Airports, Travel, and the Timezone Problem
No matter what any American tells you, "International" does not mean a) Mexico, b) Canada.
And because I know you're all bored as hell of me wailing about this damned trip...it's done and booked! Did it this afternoon over a period of about an hour and a half. Whew!
Leg 1: Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, CA
- dep: Monday, 1st Oct 2007 1:45pm, Sydney Int'l (really international, as in, it's a minimum 5 hour flight to the nearest country!)
- arr: Monday 1st Oct 2007 10:15am, LA Int'l, Los Angeles, CA
From here, I'm probably going to head to Phoenix, AZ (
twilightdweller and hopefully meet
technosage) and Houston, TX (
gwemegil), until the 11th Oct (or whenever Disneyland starts).
Then Disneyland and Vegas with the Horsewomen (and The Lone Horseman), up until the 18th Oct.
Leg 2: Vegas, NV to Boston, MA
- dep: Thursday 18th Oct 2007 7:00am, McCarron Int'l, Las Vegas, NV
- arr: Thursday 18th Oct 2007 9:48am, Denver Int'l, Denver, CO
- dep: Thursday 18th Oct 2007 10:25am, Denver Int'l, Denver, CO
- arr: Thursday 18th Oct 2007 4:20pm, Logan Int'l, Boston, MA
From Friday 19th Oct to Monday 29th Oct, I'll be on the "New England Charm" tour that passes through Portland, ME; Shelbourne, North Conway, and Franconia Notch, NH, Burlington, Montpelier, and Concord, VT, and Hayannis, MA, then spends two days in Boston to explore the city.
I have no idea what I'm doing from from Monday 29th Oct to Thursday 1st Nov. I'd like to meet up with people in the North East area, but I don't know how to get to places from which I can meet them (how are the train schedules around there?) or who's where.
slm76 does not escape, though! (And I would really love to meet
snoggingpicard if she's reading this.)
Leg 3: Boston, MA to London, UK
- dep: Thursday 1st Nov 2007 5:44pm, Logan Int'l, Boston, MA
- arr: Thursday 1st Nov 2007 7:30pm, Dulles Int'l, Washington, DC
- dep: Thursday 1st Nov 2007 9:47pm, Dulles Int'l, Washington, DC
- arr: Friday, 2nd Nov 2007 9:00am Heathrow, London, UK
Two days in London and I'll be off on the "Winter Explorer" tour with Insight from Sunday 4th November to Friday 16th November, that goes through Amsterdam, Cologne, Heidelberg, Neuschwanstein, Oberammergau, Innsbruck, Verona, Venice, Rome, Florence, Lucern, Paris, and back up to London again.
I don't fly out of London until Monday 26th November. During that time, I will at least be seeing
beefree88, and have the intention of hunting down
hwcarnage and her quidlings and man-slave.
And then it's homeward ho!
Leg 4: London, UK to Sydney, Australia
- dep: Monday, 26th Nov 2007 10:15pm Heathrow, London, UK
- arr: Tuesday 27th Nov 2007 6:55pm Changi Int'l, Singapore
- dep: Tuesday 27th Nov 2007 8:40pm Changi Int'l, Singapore
- arr: Wednesday 28th Nov 2007 7:15am Sydney Int'l
I will, of course, be zonked when I return home. Because if you calculate that last leg, it's more or less night-night-night-night for about 20 hours...and then a big long day to get through once I hit Sydney.
I figure that if the parentals are doing China in late January, then I'm better off doing that with them and dropping by HK and my father on the way home - around Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year in HK? Excellent!
Trying to type out an itinerary after drinking a Vodka Cruiser is more difficult than I expected.

Actually, if I could draaaaag all the UK peeps into London that weekend, we could have this massive lunch-y thing and descend upon some poor, unsuspecting pub!

However, I'll settle for what I can get! I'll look at it closer to the time, November is still a long way off, so there's plenty of time to organise this... looking forward to it!

You're in PA, though, aren't you? Near Philadelphia? I should be able to get a flight there easy enough...

Originally, I finished up the New England tour in Boston on the Saturday, but I took a two-day extension to look around Boston for the weekend.
It was a free extension, though, so I could escape out and head on over to Philly for a couple of days...

Will you still be in Europe in October-November?

If you know of anyone who needs a roomie for the nights of the 2nd and 3rd, let me know! I doubt I'll attend the con, but I'll be needing somewhere to stay and if it's in the Heathrow area, then that makes it all nice and convenient...

My mom still lives there right by the ocean! AH!
and my entire family is still in the area...Boston is GORGEOUS! You will like the Northeast...at least I hope you do.
I'll see what I can dig up for you as far as that time frame and what you like to do....The Boston Duck Tours I"ve heard are wonderful....In Salem that's the time for Halloween and man, they have a ton of things to do up there....
Right now I"m not in Boston or MA but I"M close. I can't promise you anything due to work and kiddies...but if you are interested in anything that I can help you make your stay and visit more pleasant, let me know....
How exciting this must be....Good luck with everything and I wish you a safe trip.

The Boston Duck Tours...that's not the "Make Way For Ducklings" tour, is it? Or is that another city?
Oh, yeah, I forgot I'd been in the US for Halloween. Cool!
