first post from China

Now, let's see if we can email post from China! I
have a little internet access - enough to check the
mail at least, but what gwemegil discovered
in Shanghai holds for Beijing: you can't access LJ
from China.

After spending all day in transit (leaving home at
5am Oz EST), we arrived at the Sunshine Holiday Plaza
in Beijing around 10pm Beijing time (midnight Oz
time).

It's not a bad hotel. The beds are hard as rock,
and room service is difficult to get when so few of
the staff speaks English (and none of us speak
Mandarin), but it's clean and neat and well-appointed.

They're going to have to work on their English
before the Beijing Olympics though!

Anyway, we're off to the Beijing Zoo today, to see
the red pandas.

Even if I can post this (and if I don't receive any
comments on this post, I'll assume it didn't make it),
I'm not sure that I can reply to comments from here -
if either allisnow or sjhw_tolerance comment, then I'll reply to their
comments and we'll see if it made it through.

It's all a testing process right now. Which, I guess,
makes you guys the lab rats. :)
