yay, ow, sigh
Aug. 25th, 2008 10:39 amIt's always amusing to be labelled "annoyance #1".
Next week, the grand finals against the team we played both last weekend and two weekends ago. We've lost twice, drawn twice against them, but we've only got to win one: the one that counts!
In the spirit of the coming game, and the knowledge that I'm not as fit as I should be, I went to the gym this morning and did some jogging, running, and flat-out sprinting for about 15 mins. No, it's not a long time, but running on a treadmill is like watching paint dry as far as I'm concerned. Personally, I'd rather have a visual goal to run towards. And my feet were cramping. Going every morning before work this week (I'm in one place for work all week, so far - that's a first in a while) should help increase my fitness for this weekend's grand final.
There's something very refreshing about exercising first thing in the morning, even if it did mean getting out of the house before 7am to catch the train in. Yes, it hurts a little, but it's a good hurt.
On the TV show front:
arabel and I have been working our way through S1 of Dexter and we're enjoying it. It provides food for thought on human nature and inhuman nature, connection between people, and the things we make of ourselves to survive. I think we're only up to 1.05 so far - the one with the twin storylines of Tony Tucci the security gurad, and the people-smugglers.
Best TV Dinner ever: miso soup with soba noodles, dried mushroom, tofu cubes, a poached egg, and shallots. 15 mins, two pots (with mostly soup), very simple. Some baby spinach would have been great to dump into the soup and cook, but we managed without.
I've watched 4 episodes of Eureka and am enjoying it. Lighthearted fluffy stuff. I should probably start downloading Season 2 - I imagine I'll be wanting to watch it when I've gotten through S1.
When September comes along with its free Sundays (and Saturdays, once the cloisonne class is done), I'm going to start a 'BSG catchup' day with a couple of girls from hockey who haven't watched it since S1 or S2. Yesterday after hockey, we went for drinks at the local RSL and the girls laughed at me for being able to remember plots and storylines and such from TV shows ("You really need to get out more, Sel.") but I pointed out that that's what I'm good at - I remember characters, plots, storylines, worldbuilding. I can't remember the programs I worked on last week, but name me a movie or an episode of a TV show I've watched and I can tell you the plot, the characters, the themes, and how the crisis was resolved.
I've hit the 'meh' wall on Stargate Atlantis. This, too, shall pass. It happens every season - I manage to watch the first half-dozen episodes, lose interest/get frustrated and drift away, then end up watching four-episode blocks of the show to catch up later.
wiliqueen? I'm sure that once I get into Blood Ties, I'll enjoy it - the problem is getting into it! It takes a lot of self-persuading for me to even watch episodes of TV shows I've missed, let alone a new series. It's just getting to that crux-point.
And I am again at a workplace with nothing to do. Hence the update.
