Looks like the Nowra job will be holding me for the rest of the year!

After the RTW, I return to the job in the 1st week of December, work through Christmas (with possibly a few days off between Christmas/New Year, 'cos that's always nice), and then through January, until the family does the China holiday, leaving on Australia Day (26th Jan).

Guess I really should see about getting my diving licence while I'm down here, since it'll be summer and [livejournal.com profile] sharim might visit me. *looks hopeful*

You know, the only really surprising thing about the [livejournal.com profile] die_carter_die comm is that none of the more rabid Sam-hating Elizabeth-fen of my LJ acquaintance are on it.

The weather has been extremely windy, but also rather warm lately. I think we've been up in the late teens - certainly, it's not quite a chilly as it was a couple of weeks ago.

Still not getting sleep though.

For the Americans who fly around their country: what's the cheapest airline, or when's the cheapest time to get tickets? Do travel companies/airlines have periodic sales for flights between specific cities when the prices are reduced? What travel companies/airlines do you recommend?

For instance, in Australia, I can get a return flight to Hobart for around $375USD. On a sale, I can get a return flight to Hobart for $100USD.

Vive la difference!

I don't know what it is about this area that makes dawn and dusk so spectacular. This morning, in the north, a cloudbank had swept up over the sky, but was feathered along the upper edge to catch the light of the sun rising behind it with gilded brightness.

And me without a camera. (And late for work.)

Damn dog was barking at something in the backyard at 3am for an hour. Getting up this morning was sooooo hard...

Just had a chat with my supervisor.

I'm now contracted to work here until I go away in October! (I suspected, but it's nice to know.)

They're asking me to take on a few new technology thingies that they're either installing or looking to install, which gains me experience in those areas and makes another line on my resume.

And, finally, they're going to start running a little low on work in mid-July, so they've actually asked if I want to take some time off in late July. Or odd days here and there to travel around and see the area.

...oddly enough, I don't have a problem with that.

Now, my only concern is my kitty cat and whether I can find a place that will let me have a cat in the house.

And now that that's sorted out, I need to work out what I'm going to have for lunch...

The house itself is lovely. The owner's nice and usually absent. The other renter is chatty and friendly without being overchatty and overfriendly.

The problem is the dog, the phone, and the mattress.

I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kree. It's all Sue's fault. And now I have le already-7,500-words-of-SG1-DOOM-plotbunny-with-probably-15,000-more-to-go back in my brain.

*le sigh*

It's a way of getting rid of an old plotbunny anyway.

But I think my [livejournal.com profile] sjficathon is going to be very simple by comparison. (Theoretically.) We'll just squeeeeeeze in 1,000 words and leave it at that. I should probably get that done and out of way while I have the bunny in the head.

All moved without trouble. I just have to bring over my planter boxes and collect my newspapers.

I have dial-up at the new place, so chatting is possible, however images usually are not. :-/

Well, it looks like I have to go search for somewhere else to live.

The landlady has decided she doesn't like sharing the house, so I have to find another residence.

In a word: ARGH.
seldear: (Default)
Every now and then, I get bouts of insomnia. No particular reason that I can determine, I just can't sleep.

midnight ramblings )

I'm really tired. Bordering on exhausted. And I'm losing hours of sleep - a few hours one night, a few hours the next...and I never catch up.

Emotionally, I'm fairly certain things are headed downwards. Just...cues pointing in that direction. The lack of sleep probably doesn't help this.

might as well write about diving )

Okay, after all that rambling, I turned off the jacuzzi in order to give me some peace. I'll turn it back on in the morning, but right now, I want some sleep.

And happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] starfinn and [livejournal.com profile] saramund!

I'm gonna have to talk to the hosts about a new mattress. The insidious lumpiness is really getting to me. I haven't had a good night's sleep in the bed.

Hopefully, if I offer to pay for half of it, that might sweeten them on the subject?

whereever I go, there's me and food - there's always food and me! )

life off the internets and writing )

I need to get into the habit of taking the camera with me, wherever I go. Because I missed this fantastic photo op the other night: crescent moon, evening star (venus), twisty old stump of a eucalypt spearing 7-8m up into the violet sky.

Believe me, it was gorgeous. The area is extremely photogenic at dawn and dusk.

Rule #1 when moving into a house: Things are not always what you think they are.

older people are not always techno-literate )

Rule #2 when moving into a house: if you are a light sleeper the positioning of your room is important.

You don't really want to be woken every time someone goes to the toilet in the middle of the night )

Rule #3 when moving into a house where you aren't bringing your own bed: check the bed.

If it squeaks every time you turn over, this is bad. )

But they're a rather nice couple, so it should work out okay. :)

Now, the big question: can I get through today?
seldear: (Default)
And the neighbours on the left are noisy.

Thankfully not that kind of noisy. Yet. Although something is squeaking a little and I'm fairly certain they don't have an air-mattress to inflate! (Probably only [livejournal.com profile] saramund will get that reference.)

Other than that, I highly recommend The White House Guesthouse (no, I'm not kidding about the name) if you're ever down south.

And someone's flying an old-fashioned plane (I think - it's very noisy and I can hear the rotors whirring) at 10:45pm. Why?

Right. So, I've looked at 7 places.

2 no, 3 maybe, 2 good )

Anyway, whatever I decide, I'll probably move on Saturday, vege out Sunday.

the city that's...uh...always sleeping? )

Writing is something that happens to other people right now. So I'll just sit back and read Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. (I'm rather intrigued, it's pretty interesting.)

Must remember to call my mum, too.

Nowra

Am in Nowra, all okay. Have wireless at the guesthouse where I'm staying, but don't know if I can upload the photos I've taken of the rooms (it's all so neat and antique!) - don't want to overuse their network!

Forgot that I wasn't in Sydney and was doubtful when the host said that breakfast was served at 7am. My time-sense automatically said, "Got to leave before 7am or you'll hit the worst of the traffic!"

Considering it's all of a ten-minute walk to work, and that I doubt this town has a peak five seconds, let alone a peak hour...I don't think traffic is going to be a problem!

moving

So, tomorrow, I'm moving down to Nowra.

It's a temporary removal, just for the time that I'm working there - at least three months, until August, with possible extensions through August and September.

I know where I'm staying, but I doubt I'll have internet other than at work. Hopefully this will mean mucho writing in my spare time. And I've discovered that the guesthouse where I'm staying the first week is two blocks away from the workplace. Sydney traffic, eat your heart out! At any rate, I'll need to find somewhere to live (and preferably someone to live with).

Other than that, it may end up being a bit lonely - I don't know anyone down in Nowra, although I'll contact my friends up in Wollongong to catch up with them.

I'm still not packed.
