You know, the only really surprising thing about the [livejournal.com profile] die_carter_die comm is that none of the more rabid Sam-hating Elizabeth-fen of my LJ acquaintance are on it.

The weather has been extremely windy, but also rather warm lately. I think we've been up in the late teens - certainly, it's not quite a chilly as it was a couple of weeks ago.

Still not getting sleep though.

For the Americans who fly around their country: what's the cheapest airline, or when's the cheapest time to get tickets? Do travel companies/airlines have periodic sales for flights between specific cities when the prices are reduced? What travel companies/airlines do you recommend?

For instance, in Australia, I can get a return flight to Hobart for around $375USD. On a sale, I can get a return flight to Hobart for $100USD.

Vive la difference!

I don't know what it is about this area that makes dawn and dusk so spectacular. This morning, in the north, a cloudbank had swept up over the sky, but was feathered along the upper edge to catch the light of the sun rising behind it with gilded brightness.

And me without a camera. (And late for work.)

Damn dog was barking at something in the backyard at 3am for an hour. Getting up this morning was sooooo hard...

The last few years I've only been flying NY to Florida. So.

In my experience, the cheapest tickets you can get are those you buy outside of the 2-week time frame. The closer the date, the more expensive the ticket.

Jet Blue is a very nice and cheap airline that I've been using but some people can't because it doesn't run out of their airport.

And round trip tickets tend to be cheaper than one way.

So now would be a good time to book tix for October then?

Yep. :-) Or at least start looking and comparing.

Also, don't fly on Sundays, that's the most expensive day of all. If you can, fly Tuesdays.

During the week, then?

I'm flying in to Phoenix on a Monday, and out of Houston on a...I think it's a Thursday. And there are times when I'll probably have to fly on the weekend to get somewhere - no help for it.

But thanks for the tips!

Depends on where you're going to and from. The important thing, for me, is knowing that Southwest (which I usually end up using) doesn't list on Travelocity or any of the other "comparison shopping" sites, so I need to go through their own website.

LA to Phoenix, AZ (1st Oct), then to Houston, TX (around the 5th Oct), then from Houston to Vegas, NV (around the 10th Oct).

Other than that, a return flight between Boston, MA and Philadelphia, PA. (around the 29th Oct)

Southwest goes to all of the above except Boston. They list Manchester and Providence as alternatives, but that's not really practical unless you'll have a rental car or a ride.

They do have cheap one-ways, tho.

Hm. I checked Southwest this afternoon, and the main problem is that I had to go through Denver to get anywhere.

Going from Phoenix to Houston via Denver is a leetle out of the way. I'm looking for more direct routes...

Yeah, they just started service there last year, and pretty much immediately started hubbing all the out-west flights through it.

Can you use Travelocity and/or Expedia? That's usually the easiest way to compare.

Acquaintances only. I trust my f-list has more sanity than that.

LOL... I was pretty sure this is what you meant... Personally, I can't understand the whole reasoning behind any comm like that... whoever it is.

Ah, but Sam is going to steal limelight from Rodney and interrupt the John/Rodney love!

She's replacing Elizabeth in Atlantis, denying the twueness of Shep/Weir!

She's evil and female and blonde and competent and technical and military and outranks Sheppard and is going to take over the show...

Well, yes. But that's okay. :) You can spam them both. There's no law against that.

(And what are you doing up anyway? It's midnight in the land of the long white cloud!)

Not quite, another hour... I just remembered before I went to bed that I hadn't rubber stamped invoice books for Superdad to use tomorrow for work. Of course Boston Legal happened to be on at the same time ;)
