I'm not posting individual fics here anymore, but I will post a fic-roundup each month, fanfic and profic.

In a rather shocking discovery, I count some 47,900 words towards my [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout challenge. I picked the 'insane' level, requiring 350,000 words by the end of the year. The count includes not only the stuff I've written above, but the castoffs of the stories I've written: scenes which don't fit, lines and interactions that aren't used, sections that are pruned from a story for being irrelevant or not useful to the plot. And the count doesn't include journal entries or meta.

That's a lot of words. Even for me.

TITLE: The Astonishing Persistence Of Memory - Past Time
SUMMARY: The last they saw of him was as Kolya's prisoner, drained by the Wraith. When Atlantis finds John Sheppard living in a Pegasus village, with no memory of who he is, they endeavour to restore his memory. But a lot of things have changed in six months, including John himself. And there are some things he doesn't want to remember.
CATEGORY: drama, action-adventure, team
RATING: PG-13
PAIRINGS: John/Teyla UST, John/other
WORD COUNT: 66,000
SPOILERS: SGA 3.07 - Common Ground
NOTES: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang challenge - write 40,000+ words in 4 months. Assuming I get the profic finished in October (as is scheduled), then I might try to do the sequel come November!

TITLE: Banner of the Crossed Staves
MEDIUM: drawing/digital colouring/manip
RATING: PG-13
CHARACTERS/PAIRING: Teyla, John, Ronon, Rodney
NOTES: For the [livejournal.com profile] paintedspires art challenge to the prompt "Teyla is a warlord and John is her assassin/lover/confidant." This started off with just Teyla and John in the drawing as per the prompt, and then, when I realised they were leading an army, Ronon and Rodney turned up, all dressed for the part! I would have liked to do a wolfskin on Rodney but that was unfortunately a bit beyond my capabilities.

There may be a couple of people reading this who still keep up with the S4 spoilers.

I sent a mail to Joe Mallozzi to say hi and comment on the S4 preview thingy that's been bandied about the internet.

Because I haven't posted anything for a while, but I've been writing like a madwoman.

From an SG1/SGA crossover that obviously isn't going to have taken place anywhere in canon for the simple fact that it would require some major retconning, and people waking up in showers. I'm not sure that these parts are still going to be kept in the text, either - I had to do a rewrite, and I don't think they fit anymore. Pity. I particularly like Jack's thoughts on kinesthetic senses in the second excerpt.

I've really missed writing Jack. He's got such a distinctive voice.

Highly recommended reading.

Pure silliness.

Over at Gateworld Forums, in the Rachel Luttrell/Teyla Emmagan WOW thread, they're doing a Teyla photomanip challenge for each episode of Atlantis.

And then they got to SGA: Grace Under Pressure, which is problematic in that it has no Teyla at all. Creativity was required!

So I got creative...in a PG-13 way! )

People would rather complain and bitch than attempt to change things that they can change.

Some "friends" will still stab you in the back over something as insignificant as differing fandom opinions.

Ship wars bring out the worst in people.

There is virtually nothing an actor with a reduced role in a TV series can say that will not cause the fans to wank.

Eating half-cooked chicken is a recipe for stomach upset.

Whenever the menstrual hits, there is only ever white underwear in the underwear drawer.

There is always a scapegoat; even if they aren't the scapegoat, someone must be at fault.

No matter how hard I try, I will never write as much as I want to write in a day, a week, a month, a year.

Welcome to my life.

I'll never understand how Marvel can come out with such awesome movies as the X-Men and Spiderman series, and then such complete clunkers as Daredevil, Electra, and Ghost Rider.

bad plot, bad acting, bad exposition...the badness - it burns us, precious! )

After we got out of the movie, I railed about the movie to my companion. He good-humouredly observed, "You have trouble just accepting the stupidity and laughing at it, don't you?" To which I noted that the things that I watch uncritically are those that I don't feel a need to criticise - that hit my buttons and work for me.

I could have written a better script for this movie without reading the books, in a week of menstrual cramps without medication, and with my cat nagging at me to feed her every five minutes.

*sigh*

This is why going to see movies based on the coolness of the trailers is a really bad idea.

And I might have to sleep with the light on for a couple of nights. My horror imagination is very good.

Right, so, the order of the day is to persuade Darren to rename Gateworld to Gatewank.

In Stargate fandom forecasts, we have panic tending towards rage, a probable storm of Gateworld forum posts from the south and the east, with scattered LJ-rants for the next few months.

Monday in Canada looks to bring tearstorms, and those scattered LJ-rants will probably be blocking the sunshine for a while yet, so keep a watch out for sudden outbursts of despair and anger.

SUMMARY: Rodney glances down at his computer tablet and begins poking at the readings there with short, frantic movements. "She's not just in the city - she is the city!"
CATEGORY: drama, futurefic, John/Teyla
RATING: R for sex scene
NOTES: ZOMG. This story was impossible to write. I had the idea in my head, but it took two rewrites to get it out in a format that worked for me and the story. About 15,000 words later, I have a 5,000 word entry for the John/Teyla ficathon. Dayum. For [livejournal.com profile] ladyjax, whose request was: "John and Teyla at the end of a long life together. Happy endings do not always turn out the way you expect."

SQUEE!

[livejournal.com profile] madjm wrote my [livejournal.com profile] john_teyla_fic story! And it completely, utterly, and totally rocks. It's got John-and-Teyla friendship with a dash of UST, seriousness and playfulness, John-the-dorky-yet-responsible-officer and Teyla-the-wise-yet-wicked-friend, and it's wonderful!

There are not enough exclamation marks to indicate how great I think this story is. However, due to an excess of fangirls on the internet, some West African countries will forever have to use their exclamation marks sparingly. So I'll be good.

But if you like canon and have an open mind towards Teyla, I'm pretty sure you'll like this one.

DUUUUUUUDES. Ficathon fic! Well-written ficathon fic! Written for me! And with all my 'kinks' in!

*runs round in circles squealing*

(As you can see, this doesn't happen half-often enough. And it's such a nice feeling to have people who see the characters the way I do!)

Now I just have to finish my own ficathon entry. *grimaces*

SUMMARY: Sheppard swung back to glare at the unoffending surroundings. "If I knew who suggested the Gilbert & Sullivan society, I'd shoot them."
CATEGORY: smarm, humour
RATING: PG
NOTES: Someone requested this the last time I asked for prompts. I nearly had Rodney filking to 'So Please You, Sir' in the dining hall, but figured it was a little further than Rodney would go unless he was under an Influence of some sort. And that might take, you know, plot.

I was going to do this ages ago.

There's a ficathon on for people who like John-and-Teyla. As friends or lovers; working as a team, hanging out as friends, or getting their lines crossed romantically.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing some humourous John-and-Teyla stories. Not stupid, slapstick comedy, but light humour and the kind of situations at which you have to laugh.

At any rate, it's not only romance, but friendship and teamship too. If you can see friendship between them (and if you can't, then I wash my hands of you, because you're missing the whole thrust of Season Three and the team) then I recommend signing up over at [livejournal.com profile] john_teyla_fic.

If you're not good at writing Teyla, then I'm happy to coach anyone who wants help. Once upon a time, I got asked to write a story about a character I knew I wasn't good at. I found a beta who liked the character and I put in some effort. The resultant fic has one of my highest review counts. So, really, not being good at a character is no excuse.

Closing date for sign-ups is Sunday 8th October.

Very proud of this one. I might even stay proud of it for a couple of weeks!

Of course, it took me most of the day to put together, so I sure hope the novelty lasts for more than a day or two!

I was checking out the [livejournal.com profile] glockart community (which I tend to go without checking for looooong periods of time, then try to madly catch up on).

[livejournal.com profile] gwemegil, you might like this pic of Batgirl.

R/Hr and H/G fen might like the fic "Believe That Magic Works by [livejournal.com profile] schocolate (10 chapters, the author's version of "the Horcrux Hunt")

I strongly recommend The Drawbles Meme, in particular the Harry Potter/Les Miserables, Firefly/archery, Supernatural/X-Files, Red Dwarf/Beatles, Naruto/Calvin&Hobbes, Phedre no Delaunay, and Draco/Drusilla bondage...

And [livejournal.com profile] pixiesio and [livejournal.com profile] madjm wrote me SGA fic! Choices (Sio) and Just A Guy (Jamie).

Love you guys.
