[livejournal.com profile] seldear = [livejournal.com profile] tielan

Initially, I wanted to see if Atlantis fans would appreciate my writing without my Stargate SG-1 name attached. Some did, and I kept writing under the name [livejournal.com profile] tielan. Then I signed up for a ficathon on a fiction list where I was known as [livejournal.com profile] seldear. Rather than letting myself be known, I wrote and subbed the story under my SG-1 name. And it just snowballed from there.

Result? Two LJs writing Atlantis fanfic.

keeping them separate - or not

For the record, while I have occasionally linked from one LJ to the other, I have honestly done my best to avoid reccing fic from one LJ to the other, and vice versa. If I have subscribed to a ficathon under both LJ names, I have written both requests, and I never leave feedback to any story with both LJ names.

In the Isis Awards 2006 and 2007, multiple fics by the same author were permitted in a single category, so I felt no obligation to avoid having the two usernames in a single category. (allisnow was highly amused when she saw the Best Drama category.) In the Stargate Fan Awards, the rules went that 10 fics were permitted per author - no matter the number of usernames. Both years, I have dutifully pared the combined total of stories down to the required 10. (Geeky Sam moment: "It was awful.") Even if the organisers were apparently unaware of both my names, I was - it would have been bad form to cheat.

I hardly swept the awards in 2006 anyway, only winning one category under each name: Clutching Straws as [livejournal.com profile] seldear, and Five Men Who Never Wanted Teyla Emmagen as [livejournal.com profile] tielan.

As to the usual purpose of sockpuppets, I have mostly avoided using the two LJs as a wedge against someone else or to make myself popular (in fact, I seem to voice very unpopular opinions and have almost certainly dropped in popularity from the statement of such). The one exception is listed below, with an apology for my behaviour.

who knew?

My friendslist was originally informed, but I suspect most have since forgotten. Only a handful have both friended.

Two people guessed, purely based on my writing style - and kudos to them both!

As to the rest...well, I don't know. Some people may have guessed, some people may have tracked my IP addresses or seen an answer I gave under the wrong journal, some people may have been told by those in the know.

Most probably don't care since I don't write any pairings they're interested in.

In truth, I'm not sure who knows what anymore, other than the handful of friends who followed me over. In the end, this 'unveiling' is just easier.

It's been lovely to see familiar names pop up on the [livejournal.com profile] tielan LJ - particularly those who liked my SG-1, BSG, Firefly, Justice League, and Harry Potter work - a real encouragement that there are people for whom my writing holds appeal no matter what fandom I'm in, or what name I'm writing under. Thank you.

apologies

I have three apologies to make: two specific, one general. I don't know if either person will notice or care, but my conscience requires the apology to be made. I've apologised to the entire Sam/Jack mailing list when I made an incendiary comment before, and that was 1,800+ people at the time; this is a walk in the park by comparison.

[livejournal.com profile] vaberella, I apologise for not telling you the truth about the [livejournal.com profile] tielan userID during the JT Convergence fic kerfuffle. In all honesty, you needed to rant, and I needed a frank kick up the butt. I still believe that archiving should be done only when permission is explicitly given and that the default is not 'okay, you may archive', but I know that you only wanted the site to succeed and I’m sorry.

[livejournal.com profile] sanssong, I apologise for using both personas to voice an opinion on your list during the Isis Awards 2006 fracas. While I retain the opinions I stated on the list, I regret 'adding my weight' in as both [livejournal.com profile] seldear and [livejournal.com profile] tielan - that was unconscionable. And I still maintain that there's nothing wrong with having John/Teyla in Isis - the Isis Awards always been about how much fanwork can be easily found for the pairing, not the pairing's canonicity.

And I'm generally apologetic towards the John/Teyla fans for not being two people. I wish there were more writers in fandom for the pairing, too.

and now, onwards!

To make things simpler, in future, [livejournal.com profile] seldear will be my personal life journal, as well as the name under which I will continue to write in any fandoms where I've already published - with the exception of Atlantis.

[livejournal.com profile] tielan will be the journal and name used for all Stargate Atlantis commentary and fanfic, as well as for any fandoms for which I am contemplating the plunge (presently Torchwood and Heroes).

You're welcome to friend either or both (or unfriend either or both, as you feel the necessity), block me on Gateworld or every mailing list you own, dis-member me from your communities, bitch me out on AIM or MSN, or never ever leave me another piece of feedback - whatever. It's a free world. Some of you I'll miss, others I won't, and that's just the way it is.

However, if you want to stick it out, I'm willing to let bygones be bygones and shake on it.

For those of you friending one or the other, be aware that I'm not going to auto-friend on either LJ, and that my reading of the [livejournal.com profile] tielan friendslist is sporadic and dependant on how fandomically inclined I'm feeling that day.

cheers,

[livejournal.com profile] seldear/[livejournal.com profile] tielan
