All moved without trouble. I just have to bring over my planter boxes and collect my newspapers.

I have dial-up at the new place, so chatting is possible, however images usually are not. :-/

It's so quiet here! Granted, the town is like a suburb that was dumped at the edge of the mountains about 15 years ago and just left to muddle on its sleepy way. We're surrounded by cow paddocks on all sides. If the cows ever decide revolt, this suburb is in So Much Trouble.

When I wake at 5am, it's silent. SILENT. No jacuzzi bubbling away. No toilets flushing.

Oh, the dogs bark a little out the back but they're otherwise pretty quiet.

And the birdsong begins around 6:45-7am right now. I miss birdsong waking me up. I even miss the sulphur-crested cockatoos screeching across the sky at dawn.

Okay, so when the owner's in the house, it's usually pretty noisy, he likes having the music on. I may have to beat a strategic retreat to my room (down the end of the house) and close the glass doors.

But it has a kitchen that I can use. And people who don't mind me using it and aren't going to be obsessive about cleaning everything utterly neat.

COOKING! *bought the new Gourmet Traveller mag with food!porn pics of one-pot meals*

Have you ever seen the sun boiling the clouds at dawn? The way the light bubbles and swells the grey shapes and shadows, like gold-white fire in a grey sky?

Have you ever seen distant blue mountains shade a soft pink with the rising sun's glow, blushing with the first light of dawn, tinted like a drop of cochineal in a bowl of cream?

Have you ever watched the wispy clouds of fog drift across the lingering shadows in paddocky hollows, like ghosts awaiting sunlight's banishment, and clinging on even then, refusing to give up what little claim to life remains?

Have you ever turned off your headlights while hurtling along at 110km/hr (80 miles for the Merkins) on a country road and realised just how dark it is without your headlights?

The town itself is pretty ordinary. Small coastal town Australia, not quite pretty enough to turn into a tourist trap, and mildly bogan. However, at sunrise and sunset, the landscape transforms, transmutes, transcends its customary cow paddocks and muddy fields, to become this otherworldly place that royalty of old would not have scorned to call their own.
