end of vacation
Sep. 10th, 2009 08:35 pmTomorrow morning, I head out to the Cafe du Monde to eat beignets and drink coffee, and then I catch a shuttle to the airport, and fly home, by way of layovers in Houston, San Francisco, and Auckland.
I will have spent two very full weeks meeting, greeting, and eating. I feel the eating part particularly hard right now - I have a spare tire around my waist, thanks to all the food I've been consuming and all the exercise I haven't been doing.
Surprisingly, it feels like forever that I left on this holiday, but it's only been two weeks. Granted, it's been a very filled two weeks, I've met so many people that I've chatted to or commented on for years and never actually met, and re-met with a bunch of folks that I love very dearly.
New Orleans has been good, but rather like New York back in 2000, lonely. I was initially hoping that
pentapus might be able to come down to NOLA for this leg of the journey, but it's just been me, and, on the whole, not quite as much fun as travelling is with someone else. And I'm not the sociable kind who meets and picks up with people she doesn't know.
Ah well, I'm glad I saw it. Now to come back with others and explore the city more fully. Safety in numbers and all that.
I'd better check all my flight details and stuff before I head out tomorrow morning! You'll probably hear from me at San Francisco Airport - if not Houston!
ladyjax? I don't know if we'll get to meet up - like I said, I'm only in SFO for four hours, and while I can come out, I don't know if it would be worth it for you to come in. Call me if you'd like to wrangle a meeting and I'll see what I can do. *hugs*
