Aha - the trick with documentation is to spend all your time doing pretty pictures... that and using the names of your favourite telly characters in the examples.

:) Isn't it silly? I love icon LJ communities, since I don't know how to make my own. So currently, my icons are all Star Wars mockage, all the time.

Me too, I haven't an artistic bone in my body so I love that people make wonderful icon art and share it with the world. I went on a mad icon-hunt a couple of weeks back for one of my favourite fandoms (Farscape). I found so many icons I loved that I bought the extra-icon facility for my LJ. What can I say, I'm a sucker for pretty things :)
