Nottingham
Jul. 13th, 2005 01:10 pmSingapore-Hongkong section features:

Daniel in Chiani airport, exploring the orchids. (Can't trust those foreign flowers!)

The wet markets of Tai Po (out in the New Territories).

My Dad and the Lychees.

Hong Kong's financial district, with the HK Opera House in the foreground.
Am I the only person who think the HK Opera House vaguely resembles the Caprican Opera House? I haven't watched any BSG episodes in nearly a week, so can't check.

Speaking of which: don't forget to be careful of spoiling peeps as SG-1, SGA, and BSG restart this week. Posts, emails, LJ-cut titles, and icons. PLEASE! Or I will have to kill you. Slowly. I shall lock you up and force you to listen to a reading of Biblio's fanfic. Interspersed with gems from Orrymain. And then, when we're done with Orrymain, we'll bring in Telkena!
In short, you will be shown no mercy.
So please, don't spoil. Thankyou.

Back to the trip!
Newstead Abbey gardens were gorgeous. As a gardener, I loved them. They were absolutely spectacular! Not so enamoured of the insides, although they had some interesting histories, etc. The gardens were what I coveted. And it was lovely meeting and talking to Wendy about everything!

Daniel has a cuppa at Nottingham railway station on Saturday morning.

On Monday, he went to check out the waterfall at Newstead Abbey, but found the sun a little bright.

So he took a break in a little japanese hut in the gardens. He's performing breathing katas. Can't you tell?

Then it was off to lunch for a cool drink with
dannylurks at the Hutt. (We couldn't find out why the name.)
The Sherwood Visitor's Centre is...well...a bit tacky. Definitely for kids, and waxing lyrical over Robin Hood as the 'spirit of Sherwood'. I have slight cynicism. But the wood itself is lovely and I finally learned what 'bracken' is - although it was a bit of a letdown. (It's just 'ferns'.) We also saw the grounds of Clumber Park - which used to contain a huuuuge house, stables, and a village on it's property. It's HUGE!
Heh. On Maid Marian's corner, a lingerie shop. ;)
White Post Modern Children's Farm: tell me I'm not the only one who reads that as "white, post-modern, children's farm"?
And the fish-and-chips we had last night? Best. Fish. And. Chips. Evah. I haven't had such good fish'n'chips since I was a kid. Brings back the memories.
dannylurks has put up pics of Daniel and Thor in Sherwood Forest on her LJ. If you can't see them, then my gallery (short version) is here.
Quiet day today. While it's lovely to get out and about, it's also nice to vege out and do nothing. Dinner in town tonight, and a movie: Mr. and Mrs. Smith - nice, mindless, brainless pretteh. And we'll try to ignore the stupid gossip headlines.
