saramund*
megpat_2000 finally got into Sydney on Thursday night after being delayed several times up in Brisbane; I gave her a quick course in the Roads And Motorways of Sydney. I think she was a bit overwhelmed by it, oddly enough. :)
The trip to Narooma was punctuated by singing, and exclamations of "Ooh! Rocks in a meadow!" Upon which I discovered that I was travelling with a geology geek and got an impromptu lesson in geology. We found Narooma and the farm without any trouble, although I forgot to point out Mel Gibson's house to Meags as we were driving up to the farm. She was later informed of it, and happily hung out the window to take photos on the way back.
The visitor-stay farm where
saramund parents run is gorgeous, not that far from the sea and a really fantastic place to stay if you're in south NSW. About 15 minutes walk down to the sea, and the Brits (
cyberchezza and Ave) spent quite a bit of time down by the water. And saw a school of dolphins playing in the surf. Their lives are now complete. ;)
Friday afternoon, we went down to Tilba, which is a tiny heritage town in the typical style of tiny heritage towns on the south coast (or, really, anywhere in Australia): sweet shop, antique shop, woodturning shop, alpaca fleece shop, tourist bits and pieces...and the cheese factory. Mmm...Tilba cheese. (
cyberchezza? Ave? Did you guys get your cheese through British customs after all?) Then it was back to the farm to watch 'SG1: 200' before heading out for a bbq dinner. Steak, sausages, kebabs, salad, and various alcoholic drinks. Twas good. We didn't manage to persuade
saramund to stay the night with us, though. She wanted to get some actual sleep.
Saturday breakfast involved fresh bread from Tilba, with butter and honey. Mmmm... I woke early enough to watch the sun rise over the cloud bank over the sea - a red ball of fire that tinged the top edge of the cloudbank gold-and-flame. We lazed/bummed/veged outside the cabin in the sun, complete with music, fandom discussion, a bit of writing and reading, until it was time to get ready for the wedding.
Wedding went off without a hitch.
saramund's dress was beautiful and her attendants dresses were marvellous, too. The groom and groomsmen looked wonderful in their kilts, and the 'pageboy' (groom's nephew) was adorable. The weather was sunny and fine, a few clouds, but it didn't get spatty until Sunday morning. The ceremony was small and unceremonius, the reception was easy-going and pleasant, and I think everyone had a wonderful time, newlyweds included.
megpat_2000 has all the photos (including me and
saramund doing 'the bunny'), but, as of last night, photobucket was being crappy, so the megalong post will probably have to wait.
Sunday morning recovery party at the farm - a fried breakfast on the bbq, supplemented by a box of Krispy Kremes I brought from Sydney, and the presence of the newlyweds in time to say goodbye to their guests.
The drive back was punctuated by two things: singing (mostly me) and bull-ants, care of
megpat_2000, who stopped at the tiny town of Tarago (features 1 pub and a recreational area) and managed to park on top of a bull-ants nest, thereby necessitating some serious ankle-and-foot slappage for the next ten minutes of the drive as we tried to stamp the little buggers out.
We were going to meet up with
cyberchezza and Ave in Sydney at the Lindt Café, but they took the coastal road and didn't get in to their hotel until 5pm, by which time the café was shut. So
megpat_2000 and I went for dinner in Chinatown and then I dropped her off at the station after making a pittstop at the Krispy Kremes by the Sydney Domestic Terminal.
If I stop and think about it, other than the wedding, the weekend was mostly punctuated by food. But good food. And good people. And, oh, it was just an awesome weekend and a gorgeous wedding for some wonderful friends...

megpat_2000 - except that it's a locked post so most of y'all won't be able to see it. I'll have to check about which pics I can post here.

And tonight I saw the Russian Tztars - a dancing troupe from Russia. More on them tomorrow when I get my brain in order.
*hugs* to those who've been tainted or traumatised by the shooting at the university in Virginia. :(
