places I will be in August and September
Jun. 3rd, 2015 09:49 amAttention, US friends reading this journal! I will be in your country come summer (your summer) and would love to catch up with you if you happen to be in the localities that I'm visiting!
Chicago from Wed 26th Aug to Thurs 3rd Sept.
Atlanta from Thurs 3rd Sept to Tues 8th Sept - at DragonCon.
San Francisco from Tues 8th Sept to Fri 11th Sept.
I understand that not everyone has the spoons, or the inclination, but if you do, I'd love to meet you in person!
I'm also going to be in London from the 22nd-26th Aug if there's anyone in the city then. I'll probably be hostelling it, hopefully in the middle of the city. I have to work out who and what I'm going to see this time, or if I'm going to venture out of the city and possibly...elsewhere? (the UK is one of those unexplored spaces that I never really have the chance to wander about, and which I want someone to wander about with.)

Date: 2015-06-09 02:48 pm (UTC)This website probably a good place to check out for historical sites to visit - http://hidden-london.com/index/
For a (part of the) day trip, possibility of - http://www.mountfitchetcastle.com/ - which isn't your usual stone castle but Norman bailey + randomly also a toy museum on site.
Other London places I know of that might fit the bill:

Camden is recommended for the market but also there's quite a selection of food places around Camden Lock, including a decent sushi place Hi Sushi (possibly now called Sushi Salsa) that offers all-you-can-eat set menu that is great for a group meal.
Also for food/drink:

http://loadingonline.co.uk/ (if gaming is of any interest)
I can ask London friends for more recommendations too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Royal_Naval_College - was a filming location for Thor 2. Also is in Greenwich, where Greenwich Park is meant to be quite nice + you can find GMT line to stand on if that interests you at all. And same area there's http://www.rmg.co.uk/cuttysark
I forget if you're a Who fan or not, but if so

I'm told Hyde Park and St. James' Park are good sit and contemplate places. As is Kew Gardens apparently, because Kew being a bit pricy to get into means less visitors to it.
Covent Garden as an area I'm told is a) good for sitting people watching + street performers and b) lots of food locations. Anything else interesting in the area may well also show up on here http://www.coventgardenlondonuk.com/whats-on
Foodwise I got a specific recommendation for this place if you like meat - https://www.stjohngroup.uk.com/spitalfields/

Date: 2015-06-05 04:10 pm (UTC)Let me know if you can fit me in before/after DragonCon stuff! I'm still not sure if we'll be in town the sat/sun (we might be at a tournament), but I'm guessing you're doing DragonCon-ish things those days anyway! I'll let you know if we'll be in town closer to the date, but my guess is that we'll be here
