work things

Finished the program I was working on that caused me so much grief. It was originally slated to take two days. What with one thing and another, it's stretched out across two weeks.

Asked my supervisor whether they still needed me on the project - ie. how long I can reasonably expect to be on this project. Still waiting for an answer. My initial contract was fuzzy: always has been with this contracting company. I started out with 2 weeks that stretched to 3 (in Sydney), then elasticated out to 2 months. This one they said 9 weeks, but I don't know whether that was based on the amount of work they had for me, or a time limit.

So my 9 weeks is just about up.

Have at least two more programs to do. Fortunately, they're reporting programs, not 'change-the-database' programs. Reporting programs are just a little easier: yank the information out, format it pretty, present to customer. All-good. Update programs are fraught with danger, intrigue, and much, much trouble.

I like working here: I'm earning money (although what else are they going to pay me in? beans?), I have internet access, and it's 15 minutes between home and work.

I'd like to stay for another month. That would get my finances in the black and keep them in the black, which is very important, considering they've been constantly redlined for the last two years. And I might actually have spending money when I got to Vegas.

On the other hand, I want my home and my cat and my bed and my bookshelves and all the selfish things that you take for granted when you're home. Y'know?

And I'm feeling a little dizzy while sitting in my chair. That isn't a good thing.

The weekend looms. It looks busy.
