Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] wiliqueen!

May your coming year be filled with singing, dancing, and many rehearsals!

I have a 'new' banner! Or, at least, an old one redone. When I created the old one, I didn't know much about photoshopping. I know a little bit more now, although it's still not going to rock your socks off, it should suffice for a while.

The colours are bothering me - the green background for Sam and Teyla's smallpics should be spread further out, dammit. And that itty bitty bit of Kara's shoulder showing at the edge (and the slightest corner of Lee's tee) is bugging me. Meh. Perfectionist.

Oh, well, it'll do. For the moment, anyway...

P&P review coming. Still. Is it true the US hasn't got it yet? Or is that just the Canuckistanis? Maybe there are advantages to being a UK colony after all.

10,000 to NaNo. I didn't think I'd written that much and then I remembered the profic idea I started on - and subsequently got stuck on because I knew very little of the topic. So I think we're on target. But I need to get the profic idea straightened out. Or find a new one.

Okay, The very first thing I will say is that it is good for what it is. It is a 2-hour Hollywood movie of a Jane Austen novel, with a famous actress cast in the lead role. (Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow, anyone?)

Something has to give. It's no BBC version, but it's a good primer and a reasonable execution.

the good, the bad, the WTF, and the ugly (may contain traces of spoilers) )

It definitely lacks the deeper nuances of story portrayed the BBC 6-hour miniseries. They went more directly for the romance angle and less for the drama angle, exaggerated a few things, and skipped over a few things.

On the whole, not a bad movie, but not a fantastic one. Use it as a primer, as a teaching instruction, as an example of the translation from book to film, but don't consider it definitive any more than the Harry Potter movies define the books - a useful pointer back to the books, but not more.
