At training, and have internet access - woo!

It feels so weird to be able to access mail and LJ and all those good things again. Unfortunately, no chat access. :(

Better than the blackout that work has me behind, at least.

It was a pleasantly relaxing weekend for a change - no going anywhere, no things that had to be done, I went to the gym on Saturday, helped the parentals with dinner on Saturday night, and attended my great-uncle's memorial service on Sunday.

My great-uncle was one of the first Chinese millionaires in Sydney; he died at the age of ninety with four children, twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren (so far) and having been a major player financially and spiritually in my family church for the last forty years. He was a medium-sized businessman, and influential in his circles.

It made me think about influence and the changes that people make in their lives and the lives of those around them. One of the pastors at the church - of at least 20-25 years' tenure there - talked about how my great-uncle encouraged and supported him through his theological studies, gave advice, prayed, helped, and mentored him.

The pastor has, in his own way, been influential on hundreds of people through his work in the church; and those people there have been influential on many others in that time. Not all of it is attributable to my great-uncle of course, but some of it certainly is.

Along with [livejournal.com profile] tv_elf's death late last year, it's made me think a little about the legacies we leave behind.
