Last night, I get home from gym class and open up my laptop to do some writing before dinner. And I get this message.
"Invalid boot.ini file. The file hal.dll is corrupted or missing. Please reinstall this file."
Uh-oh.
My installation disks for the laptop are in Sydney, 150km away (60miles). It's an hour and a half to drive back and pick them up and I've had a long day. I call up my sister who isn't working and ask her to ferry them over. After some confusion over which disks she's supposed to bring, we sort it all out and she promises to drive up the next morning.
Overnight, I think of a few more things she can bring up, and message her with them in the morning.
She leaves home without checking her phone messages. Oh well. They're incidental in the end. She's bringing the disks, and that's the important thing.
Except that she hasn't brought the disks.

...
She left them on the kitchen table!!!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen! My sister drove for 90 minutes through the horror that is Sydney morning traffic without ever checking or thinking to check that she had brought the very thing I asked her to drive down here!!!!
*HEADDESKS*
I. Am. Pissed. Off.
Especially since I had a lot of writing planned for yesterday and today, to say nothing of losing a day's worth of work, 400km of petrol and 6 hours worth of precious time (her trip down here, my trip up to actually get the disks), and I was going to watch Reckoning 1&2 tonight!
GRRRRRR...

If people want to talk to me then I'll talk to them. However I am in no mood whatsoever for inane babble at the present moment.

Date: 2005-03-01 01:54 am (UTC)Strangely, the guy that works for me got that exact message this am on his desktop. Turns out his HDD was well and truly corrupt, and we ended up having to replace it. Nasty. Hope you weren't affected as badly.

Take care.
