*smooches to the people who left hugs and encouragement yesterday*
I'll still be out for most of April, but you guys rock. Muchly.

I don't get why it's so hard for people to understand the time travel concept.
History is either unchangeable or changeable.
If it's unchangeable, then we have Harry Potter, where the trio heard MacNair swing the axe into the wall when they discovered Buckbeak missing, then subsequently went on to discover Sirius, be saved by Harry and his Patronus, wake up in the infirmary, and have Harry and Hermione go back in time to save Buckbeak, save themselves, and free Sirius.
If it's changeable, then we have the 'parallel universe' syndrome explored in SG-1. All those universes exist and can reach each other through the naquadah mirror. So, in some universes, Sam never joined the military, Daniel never joined the program, the Aschen succeeded in sterilising Earth, SG-1 ended up stuck in Ancient Egypt and all of these universes are real.
HOWEVER there is only one universe that we are following, and for the sake of continuity, it's the one that keeps going. Everything that we have seen happen in the past has happened that way for the team that continues on.Therefore what we are watching up to '2010' is the history of both the version of SG-1 who met the Aschen, and the version of SG-1 that was prevented by the sending of the note. What we see up to the end of 'Threads' is the history of both the version of SG-1 who went to Giza 3000BC and the version of SG-1 that was prevented by the discovery of the tape.
The question of fish or no-fish in the pond is irrelevant. Unless you're an obsessive anti-SJ-shipper in which case you may very well wish there were no pesky fish in the damn pond.
I know I'm just an obsessive sci-fi fan with a penchant for time travel, but as far as I'm concerned, the concepts are easy to understand!
And I so should not get into discussions about continuity, multiverses, and timetravel. Ever.

Date: 2005-03-27 12:42 pm (UTC)*nods head* One of my friends insisted that Geek!Sam and co. just went *poof* once they had set everything right. I insisted that one of the huge premises of SG-1 being parallel universes, they would have lived on.
Anyway, it's nice to know I'm not alone in this, and Happy Easter even though it's almost over for you I guess.
