Didn't get to posting this yesterday, so I saved my notes.

The Episode That Doesn't Have A Name...

(at least, not until after the credits)

Hot Zone

Weir has a lovely sense of humour. And McKay just rebounds off that like wow.

"Good work girls and boys...let's go home!"

Hm. Dribbles of blood at the nose.

Um. Princess Leia slave girl outfit? Anyone? And yeah, like he's struggling to get out of the lock she's got him in!

Why doesn't McKay split his team up? All the eggs in one basket, anyone?

Hm. I've seen this movie. Except it was called 'Outbreak'. Or maybe '12 Monkeys'. Then again, '12 Monkeys' would be 'SGA: HotZone' mixed in with 'SG1: Moebius'.

'Ouch' in the conflict between Weir and Sheppard. He really overrode her. And she has a point: there can only be one 'head of the base'. Would it be possible to give a civilian leader a titular military title that still allowed them to instigate military disciplines and actions? Because the fact that the military half of the base answers to Sheppard (who technically answers to Weir, although not in a military authority sense) means that half your personnel will follow his lead before they follow hers, simply because he is higher in the military chain than she is.

In terms of a Sheppard/Weir relationship, that's another sticking point I have. Jack and Sam are both military, even if they are in the same chain. Both parties understood how the command chain works and were willing to work within it. In operational situations, Jack frequently gave Sam a lot more rope than he might otherwise have allowed a junior officer because she had shown herself trustworthy; and while Sam didn't just 'sit and take it' in situations where she didn't agree, she also knew when to protest and when to fold.

Sheppard protests all the time and doesn't seem to know when to fold. And I see Weir taking exception to that, even in a man she might like. Contrary to the songs and poems, love doesn't conquer all. Too often it gets caught on a snag of something that is disliked about the object of interest.

I really like how Teyla has the measure of both Weir and Sheppard. Yes, she's a lot like Teal'c in that she doesn't get much to say but, like Teal'c, her insights are valuable, too.

A moment of history that Ford gives away. He beat up the geeks at school? Or was that just a comment about jock/geek stereotypes?

Y'know, I would really like it if, for once, a geek wasn't the stereotypical geek. Like the chick who went on and on about the aneurysm. Or Zelenka with the glasses and lank hair. Or the bargy scientist who accused Weir of undermining him before his team.

--

Definitely pushing 'the big three': Sheppard, Weir, and McKay. Teyla, Ford, and Beckett are very much in the 'secondary characters' bag.

Oh cripes. Another Trinity. Like I need anymore.

The Defiant One

I love how Ford gives Weir the backwards glance after she's ordered him to put together a rescue team, although Sheppard and McKay aren't in trouble...yet. I think it highly funny that Weir has enough experience of the kind of trouble Sheppard gets into that she's putting together a rescue team even now.

Redshirts, redshirts, reddy-reddy-redshirts.

Do all the wraith have dreadlocks? Or is this one just having a 10,000 year old bad-hair day.

Call it paranoia, intuition, or just a drill... Interesting. Teyla's more in tune with Weir than Ford. Prevention is better than cure. I wonder if it's a millitary mentality not to fix when it ain't broke.

Oh, and the second redshirt is so going to hold a grudge against McKay, although I have the feeling it came a little out of left field.

"What are you, Captain Kirk?" Well, apparently he does get laid later on in the series with the chick of the week...

I hate to be the one who gets practical in the middle of all this...but why didn't Shep wait until the guy was out in the open and a decent way from the 'jumper? Shoot him full of holes, and while he's in recovery phase, plant the bombs on him, blow him to bits.

Innate cynicism. Yay.

Prediction: Twinkly light things save the day?

Y'know, I thought the little pull-apart-and-put-back-together thing would be a signaller of some kind.

It's interesting to see how far McKay has come in some respects...and how little in others.

Does the little twinkly light go back and find it's friends and comeback for more food! FOOD!

Mmph. Not a terribly interesting episode. I have to admit, guys and girls, I'm getting a little weary of Sheppard saving the day all the time. He's like super!soldier!Sheppard! Yeesh. If this goes on much longer, he may end up in the 'Daniel Saves The Day' box. Which you do not want. Seriously.

For some reason, I don't have Sanctuary. Alas, I miss Sheppard monopolising chicky-babe's time and getting laid. Woe.

Before I Sleep

Cute. I have no idea what he gave her as a present, but cute. Okay, urn thingy.

The woman in the stasis chamber isn't a day over 70. Maybe 80. My grandmother is pushing 90 and is this little old lady with a zillion wrinkles. 'Ancient' Ancient isn't a day older than 70. If that.

I love the dig McKay gives Sheppard: "We cannot lose this opportunity to talk to a living, breathing Ancient. Again." And the look that crosses Sheppard's face? Priceless.

Erm. Didn't the Ancients die of a plague or something? And if they did...wouldn't you want to be really wary of defrosting anyone? After all, Jack got viral meningitis (or something like that) from Aiyanna when they defrosted her.

Hm. Telepath, maybe? Nope. Well, my next guess was that she was someone of the cast.

Okay, this is the most exciting episode of Atlantis that I've yet watched. With perhaps the exception of 'Rising'. Have I mentioned how much I love time travel and AUs? No? Well, I do.

Nice McKay/Weir moment when she tells him not to stay behind.

Oh Rodney, you're such a funny guy. "I died?" Oh, the immortality of arrogance. Cute arrogance, but arrogance nevertheless. And it's funny to watch McKay and Sheppard doing the 'one up' thing with each other.

You know, watching those two is like watching Jack and Daniel with the brakes off. No limits on the snark.

On the whole, this episode has made my top 5. Not that it's particularly hard after seeing only 16 eps.

The Brotherhood

Entertaining to watch Alina fall for McKay. Not quite so entertaining to watch McKay attempt to be 'smooth' - although funny how the rest of his team have noticed it and he hasn't. Ah, Mr. Oblivious. And the reintroduction of the Gennii is good. I'm guessing that Kolya's scar is from Sheppard's shot in Atlantis.

Oh, and the lowering in the hole? So Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Never, ever, ever hand the precious item out of the hole before you get out of it yourself. Explorer 101. Bet you they do.

GO FORD! GO GO GO GO GO!

As you can tell, I'm happy to see Ford get something other than 'yes, sir' or 'no, sir'. The boy is cheated. Honest to god.

But I hate it when people on TV are stupid. Rule #1 of going into caves, caverns, and places you don't know: leave more than one guard outside. Rig some kind of a dead-man's switch, set up some kind of a warning system, don't just walk into the mouth of the ancient tomb and expect to walk back out again without a hitch! AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO BELIEVES IN MAXIMUM PARANOIA?

(obviously so)

ps. Zelenka has an itty bitty admiration-thing going for Weir. It's not yet reached Felger's 'follow-around-with-the-tongue-hanging-out' degree for Sam, but give us about five seasons, and I'm sure it will be. Possibly.

Carson. Ah, Carson. I'm really liking Carson. Poor sod. Even if he does need to learn to do things other than exclaim, "I'm a doctor! Not a pilot!" No, you're not. But you're all they have. Deal.

"Besides the Gennii do not make deals with terrorists."

Do you know what my first thought was after watching 'Underground'? "Wow, the Gennii attitude towards others is suspiciously American. They are the only ones that count in their planning, and while they are willing to tolerate people who are beneath them and can't touch them, they aren't willing to tolerate rivals - which the Atlanteans are."

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

So nice to have confirmation.

I liked how Shep, Teyla and Ford managed to 'MacGyver' the situation to their needs. Very elegant. Unexpected twist of events with Alina turning out to be the new Brotherhoood, but I'm puzzled.

They believe the Atlanteans are coming back: they aren't. They either died off on Earth or Ascended: WHY DON'T THEY TELL THEM THAT? Hell, Sheppard's one of their descendants - proven by his ability to use Ancient technology. Can't they use that as an argument?

And they've set up the end-of-series cliffhanger. Good job, guys.

Okay, I would like to make this one exclamation of disbelief. And I'm sparing nobody.

It's not all about the ship, you know!

I can't believe that everyone's focusing on the ship. I mean, the stories that are possible? The stories you could write! With action and adventure and whatever UST you cared to include - and hell, if you're imaginative, you can do hot sex in there as well! There are seriously no limits!

And here y'all are pissing around with sex scenes when there's a galaxy full of stories and you can work your ship into it any bloody way you want!

Yes, I have fic ideas. Reams of them. Whether they get written is a whole 'nother matter.

*gasps and faints dead away*

You haven't found that good UST/gen plotty SGA story yet by any chance, have you?

One to read, or one to write?

ROFL!! I sense a smidge of sarcasm here. ;)

It's not all about the ship, you know!

Nope, it isn't. I'm sure there has to be someone (or many someones) out there writing non-ship. And one of these days I will write something more action-adventure-gen-ish (as I do have some ideas), just too many fandoms and ideas pulling me in other directions. *le sigh*

Sarcasm? Moi? Whatever gave you that idea???

Oh, thank God. I thought I was the only SGA heretic who didn't really care to 'ship any of them. *hugs you in sisterhood of non-shippiness* I mean, the series is growing on me, but I don't see any 'ship there.

I think I really should qualify. I still have my 'preferred moments' as far as couples go, but there's just so much action-adventure possibility that I'm astounded that people aren't writing more of it!

And pure UST/romance usually excludes action-adventure, but there's no reason you can't sneak UST moments into an A-A story...
