Interesting. Very interesting.

I sauntered out and bought a copy this morning, then read it in about five hours. Yes, I read way too fast for my own good.

Unspoiler: I prefer this story to OotP, which just seemed way too over-dramatic. And JKR definitely overused the capslock.

Wow.

I mean...WOW.

As [livejournal.com profile] stars_like_dust has said, the series has taken an abrupt turn into adulthood. It's quite refreshing, actually - I was worried that Harry might cause JKR to go mental on the capslock again.

Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny shippers will be over the moon. I'm actually hoping to watch things implode over in the Harry/Hermione camp. But then, I'm a meeeeean and evil person.

ETA: Have just checked a few communities. Has everyone put posting on hold? It's deadly silent! Bizarre.

Draco-lovers will adore it since the boy actually plays a part other than the most horribly cliche poseur of pureblood relations.

And I personally think there is still a possibility that Snape might turn out to be on the side of the angels. And I'm not even a Snape-fan! Dumbledore's death was expected, so not terribly much a surprise. Also not surprising is Harry's decision at the end of the book. To have Voldemort pursue Harry to Hogwarts in the final year would have been predictable. And now there's all kinds of possibilities opened up by the fact that there'll be no more school, no more predictability: just the hunt.

So, yay, JKR. Unexpected plots, some nice twists, and very enjoyable.

Definitely interesting.

Am up for discussion on HBP by all and sundry.

Oh yes, so was I! OOTP is my least favourite book for that very reason! Thank god she conveyed his feelings without the over use of caps lock!!

Snape? not a fan of his, but was NOT expecting him to do that... wow... Colour me stunned!

I don't think the bit with Snape really took me by surprise. Currently trying to work out why (not).

I was mostly surprised because of Dumbledore's aboslute *faith* in him- something I thought he would not have taken lightly....

I haven't read any of the books, but am interested that all the ship you mention is het ship. Is there anything else?

I mean, I'm positive that there is tons of slash in fanfiction, but I wondered if the books themselves had any. Really just more to see whether anyone of extreme left wing persuasions is complaining about the lack of it, and how it's totally unrealistic in this day and age, etc. etc.

I don't see any real indications of slash in the Harry Potter series.

The primary slash pairings are Harry/Draco and Remus/Sirius.

Previous to HBP, Harry hated Draco and Draco hated Harry. In HBP, Harry still thinks Draco is up to no good and would be more than happy to see Malfoy hexed, however he's also obsessed with what Malfoy is trying to do, convinced that the other boy is in the midst of something nefarious.

The text simply says something to the effect of, "Meanwhile, Harry was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy." Which probably sent the H/D shippers into orgies.

Remus/Sirius might have been possible in the context of them being friends in their youth. However, the big issue that I see in any relationship for them is that Sirius once set Remus on someone else in his werewolf form - something that I can't see Remus condoning at all. It would be a big issue that would need to be dealt with.

So, no, I don't really see any slash in the books.

There have been accusations of homophobia among some fans: epecially since Remus has since hooked up with a woman.

Oh, I am SO with you there. Glad to see that he's matured a bit since then. *g*

I agree with you about Snape, though--Dumbledore was always so beyond-a-doubt sure that Snape was trustworthy....perhaps that's just the optimist in me. ;)

Definitely some nice twists, yes!

I've never been a Snape fan or a fan of any Slytherin, but the whole second chapter just spoke to me, opening up Narcissa and Snape as real three-dimentional characters. I wouldn't be surprised at all if in the end, Snape sacrifices himself to save Harry and kill Voldemort once and for all.
