meme reply IV
Aug. 25th, 2005 03:18 pmName a pairing or character (that I'm familiar with, in a fandom I'm familiar with) and I will write the first paragraph or segment of a story for it.
She didn't exactly ask for this, but it came up in her pairing meme and my gosh I liked the idea!
So, for
marag:
Trouble With A Smile
(Bruce Wayne/Elizabeth Weir)
Elizabeth's first thought on seeing the new Atlantis scientific contractor was, 'My God, he's gorgeous!'
Her second was, 'He doesn't look like a scientist.' At least, not like any of the scientists that she worked with.
For starters, he was dressed in a business suit, yet stood at ease in the midst of the Atlantis gateroom. If he was aware of the spectacle he made amidst the fatigues of the expedition personnel as they moved about the room, he didn't seem to care.
Then there was the fact that he took one swift glance around the gateroom, then fixed his gaze on Elizabeth. He didn't stare, didn't gape, didn't gasp at the magnificence of the city the way most of the newcomers to the city did. Instead, he fixed deep blue eyes upon her face as he stepped forward to greet her with a smile that would make angels scream and fall from heaven.
Elizabeth was no angel.
"Dr. Elizabeth Weir, I presume."
She told herself that she was a thirty-seven year old woman and there was no need for her pulse to race as she shook his hand in formal greeting. "You presume correctly, Dr...?"
Caldwell had been very close-lipped about this contractor, only reporting that his assignment here was a political favour from someone very high up. Civilian contractors were not generally allowed at the Stargate sites - it was rare enough for the military contractors to gain clearance for the Stargate sites.
"It's just 'Mister', Dr. Weir," he said. "Bruce Wayne."
She did a double-take. She couldn't help it. "Of Wayne Enterprises?"
"That would be correct."
Which explained why the man was here. The military might get billions in support of the Stargate program, but this man made billions supplying the basic technological components of most of the equipment used in both the Earth and Atlantis Stargate projects. To say that Bruce Wayne was 'a civilian contractor' for the military was like saying that the US was 'a power' in global politics.
And somehow he'd gained clearance for the Atlantis project, received permission to come out here, and was going to be conducting a review of the technology interface needs for the city.
Oh, help.

If there was a time before she walked through the world without the shadows trailing her, she barely remembers it.
Foot. Step. Metal. Echo.
Everyone has secrets. But are secrets still secrets if she knows them? Thoughts echo through the ship, like a cacophony of conversations in her mind.
Love. Grief. Envy. Anger.
Her body moves differently now. Muscles that were just muscles are more now. Weapons. And her mind is the greatest weapon of them all. They can't see her mind.
Hand. Iron. Touch. Cold.
Simon tries. She loves him for it - if she still is capable of love. The blue-hands wanted things of her that she could not give. They took her and changed her, moulded her. A little death. Just a little.
Pain. Pinpricks. Agony. Change.
She's not the child she was. They made her into something more. There are memories hovering on the edges of her mind, twisting the world as she watches. Faces overlaid with masks. Objects that waver between identities.
Weapon. Branch. Flower. Gun.
Identity is fragile. Is River Tam the girl her brother thinks she is? Is she who River Tam thinks she is? Who she is or who she was? The questions crash about, and they break into pieces, and cast their own shadows.
Space. Stars. Ship. Serenity.
River.

Date: 2005-08-25 10:28 pm (UTC)It just leads to all kinds of fun questions, like what would McKay do when this business dude started arguing science with him? I mean, if Bruce got himself here, he's not playing Bruce the fop. So would he spar with Teyla (I could die happy just from that image)? Question Shep about what it's like to work with the Ancient techology? He and Zelenka would get along great, I think. Ronon Dex would probably hate his guts.

Date: 2005-08-25 10:32 pm (UTC)Maybe a scenario where the city comes under attack and he has to defend with his skills as Batman and not just be science-y...and then watches the heads go 'splodey as they try to deal with this idea.
