the saga of Monday
Sep. 26th, 2005 01:18 pmI think that the unit I purchased is cursed.
First renters were the couple where the woman got a domestic out on the man. They fought, they screamed, they yelled, and after 18 months, they defaulted out, leaving the place a mess. I didn't have landlord's insurance, silly me. Result? Bills to pay and clean up.
Second renters were a nice Sudanese couple. Moved in June this year, had a good record. Well, had a good record up until they got beaten up to make way for twenty of their countrymen who squatted on the property for a couple of weeks. Noise, police called, complaints from the neighbours - and all this happened while I was overseas. So it didn't get fixed half as fast as it should have.
Now there's a squatter living down in the garage. They evicted him just this morning and the real estate agent is going to replace the garage lock and key.
Let's not even mention the car that someone burned out in one of the visitor parking spaces.
I swear to God, someone cursed the unit and I will know no rest until it's gone. Except that selling right now would be financial suicide.
Am currently on the phone with a Landlord's insurance company, because I'm seriously needing this.

And then there's the saga of my sister's rego, the internet, and 'who owns the phoneline'.
Sister wanted to do rego online. She'd paid her Compulsory Third Party insurance, but the detail hadn't been passed through to the Roads and Transport Authority where she has to send in the rego. So she can't do it online.
Cue much screaming and shouting, especially since I'm on the phoneline to access the internet, and she wanted to use the phone to check with the insurance company about the CTP. Then she got mad at the thought that she might have to pay the insurance twice - even though there was nothing to say that she would have to do so.
We suggested she drive in to the actual RTA and do her rego. She doesn't want to - in spite of the fact that her rego expires today. The reason? She doesn't want to stand in the queues. "If I'd known this was going to happen, then I would have gone first thing this morning!"
If she'd known this was going to happen, she'd be a precog and we'd find other uses for her.
And she's grumpy because I'm on the phoneline. It would help if she would not scream at me to get off.

And last, but not least, the job situation.
Brisbane possibilities have come back up again. Two and a half year project, starting with six months hiring then extension in three-month blocks. Good money, nice weather. 10 roles going, reasonable money, I'd take the cat.
I'll probably hear back about a 10 month job in Canberra as of the 30th since that's when the role closes. Canberra rent would probably be cheaper, though, and the traffic is certainly easier than Sydney or Brisbane. And it's only 3 hours drive away instead of 12 hours.
Either way, I don't mind moving to another city for the interim - I spent 6 years down in Wollongong. A steady job to put away the money and pay the rent would be very nice, though.

The sister is still angry about her rego.

Date: 2005-09-26 01:39 pm (UTC)Anyway, I bought this unit back when the market was on the rise in an area that wasn't so great, and now the market is on the fall and I can't afford to sell it.
If I get a job, then I should be able to scrape through. If not... I may have to borrow money to make the mortgage.
