California 2006
Oct. 13th, 2006 10:39 pmOnly a short trip, but still a few photos!
I stayed with
allisnow, we met up with
ladyjax on Thursday, and with
tv_elf on Friday.
Saturday, we went to a Sacramento restaurant with
blackbeard68,
starfinn, and
pandora_576.
I have photos of none of these meetings.
I do have other photos, though...
Starting with one of Alli's kitties, Piper!

The last one isn't too great a shot. I didn't have the flash on, and the resultant photo doesn't 'improve' very much. But I have a pic of both Piper and her sister Abby staring at me...

...before we get on to the photos of the day trip to San Francisco.
We went into the city, caught the cable cars out to Lombard St, got off and walked down then up 'the most crooked street in the world'
Joe and Daniel lemmings at the cable car terminal at Powell St station.

A building whose architecture I liked. I think it was the GAP building. Something about Audrey Hepburn and a pair of simple black trousers.

The view up the street - possibly Mason St. (I'm bad with the names of the streets we travelled along.)

I took a pic of this building simply because the architecture intrigued me - kinda Art Deco with the green tile. Reminds me of my grandmother's bathroom.

Same with this building - although not the bit about reminding me of my grandmother's bathroom.

We caught the Mason-Hyde line, intending to go to Chinatown. Since we weren't entirely sure of where to get off and which way to head in order to reach Chinatown, we skipped Chinatown and just got off at Lombard.

This is the view further down Lombard, with the squiggly bit behind me - I think it's facing north-west-ish.

Some views from Lombard. (I can't remember if that was taken from the top or bottom of the squiggly bit.)

A spider!

Heading down Hyde St towards the marina in the cable car.

We wandered around a bit, had a look at the marina and decided to go on a ferry trip out beneath the Golden Gate Bridge.
It was cold. There was fog. And politely helpful audio tracks that pointed out all the sights to see during the cruise as well as giving the tourist a brief run-down of the history of San Francisco in one of those "isn't-this-exciting-in-a-school-field-trip" kind of way.

Cue pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, with and without fog, and with and without sun.

The fog effect is quite interesting in this - twisting the shape of the pylons all around.

Alli's hand indicating the southern end of the bridge.

Southern pylon of Golden Gate bridge, plus American flag!

Dramatic and slightly heroic-looking pic of Alli, plus American flag and southern pylon of Golden Gate Bridge!

Alcatraz, plus American flag!

Yeah, I took a couple of the flag - I was trying to get it at an angle where it was out and snapping. The effect is quite nice. Must try that on a Sydney ferry sometime...
And a pic of the SF city skyline.

Cat, cat, and another cat!

Abby investigates the tower!

Zoomy Abby!

...because they're too gosh-darn cute!
And the obligatory IHOP shot with lemmings. :)

I don't actually have pics of Saturday night with Bri, Katt, and Lola. I think Lola's camera was the one to take the pic - hopefully it turned out okay!
Flight back, download photos, deal with family and overly-warm Sydney spring, and try to cope with jet lag. UGH.
At any rate, my travelling days (of 2006) are done. Now to save for 2007!

Date: 2006-10-13 02:52 pm (UTC)Aaand...now that I have company loyalty out of the way... amazing pics! Glad you had a good time while you were out here. Hopefully the jet lag won't be so cruel to you now that you're back home. ^.^

Date: 2006-10-14 01:25 pm (UTC)The jet lag seems to be treating me well - but then that's usually the case travelling west. Travelling east is utter hell on the body, but travelling west is only slightly hell.
I have been napping all yesterday and today though. Hopefully tomorrow will completely eliminate the need for naps.

Date: 2006-10-14 01:26 pm (UTC)Now, they're a bit more confident, and both of them were checking me out within a day or so and climbing onto my air mattress in two!

Date: 2006-10-13 06:01 pm (UTC)Didn't get a single clear shot of the bridge when I was there. These shots are excellent. :)

Date: 2006-10-14 01:32 pm (UTC)Even Sydney doesn't have that abrupt a change in weather over so short a distance!
And then there was the sun-and-fog moment and I scrambled to get the camera prepped and ready...

Date: 2006-10-14 02:14 am (UTC)(Do Sydney ferries even have flags?)
no subject
Date: 2006-10-14 01:34 pm (UTC)And I think some of them do. I vaguely remember seeing a flag waving while I was going on a ferry trip with a Dutch friend who was in town.

Date: 2006-10-14 01:35 pm (UTC)And then, too, back when this quarter was initially established, I imagine that they had horse-and-carriage sets.

Date: 2006-10-23 09:45 pm (UTC)Oh..and..um...the bridge pics, sweetie, that is the northern part of the bridge. On the left is the beginning of the Marin headlands. ;)
((hugs))
