Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
These five are probably the ones that I think best showcase the range of my work, from the long action-adventure, to the short vignette. From the angsty to the fluffy, from the character-driven to the plot-filled. The links lead to The Pit Of Voles (conventionally known as 'Fanfiction.net') so clicky at your own risky!
1. Hostage Situation: Stargate SG-1, team. I pretty much wrote it in a week, and it was tight and character-and-action-based and it worked for me. Plus, it really highlighted the team dynamics, and I got Sam to give StalkerBoy the flick in it - bonus!
2. Aftermath: Justice League. This was another story that was written in a very short span of time - I think this one happened in about four days of nearly non-stop writing. It's angsty and painful and gutwrenching - and I wrote the damn thing! But I was pleased by the way I managed to get in the characters' strengths and flaws.
3. Breathe: Battlestar Galactica, Boomer. This was an entry for a ficathon, and the person wanted Boomer and femslash - neither of which I felt myself to be particularly good at. Ultimately, it turned out quite well, IMO. I like the introspection of it, and the way I worked the story in around the events of KLG II through to The Farm.
4. Happy Beginnings: Stargate Atlantis, John/Teyla. Perhaps it's because this took so much out of me in the writing process, but this is a current favourite. I managed to make it both romantic and angsty, touching without being saccharine, and still managing to capture the characters' actions while depicting the key events of the history.
5. Red String: Harry Potter, Harry/Luna. Because it's short and sweet and slightly crazy - which is how I perceive their relationship being (if they ever ended up in a relationship). And it was fun to write Luna - it always is. She's nutty, but she's a sweetheart, too.
I ended up picking one from five different fandoms - but I honestly don't think I can say I love any of these stories 'the most'. There are things that I love about every one of my stories - even years after I've written them, it's rare that I can't find one that I'm at least a little bit proud of, or that I don't remember making an effort to produce.
That's my love of writing - not just producing something that people comment on, but producing something that I can look at, one, two, three years later and think, "Yeah, that was a good piece of writing. I'm still proud to have my name attached to that."
Five people to do this? Uhh...I don't know how many people on my f-list write very much anymore! So, basically, if you want to do this meme, do it.
