I just called my mother to confirm the time that we're going to be travelling in China.

She sent me into a tailspin about my Round-The-World trip.

I love my mother, but she's security and stability oriented. Maybe it's a generational thing, maybe it's a personality thing, but where she wants me to have a stable, secure job, I'd rather have variation in employment, travel, and freedom.

So I told her how long I was going to be away. She ventured a doubtful, "Do you really want to be away that long?"

To which I went, "ARGH! MUM DISAGREES! *FLAIL!*"

So I flailed a little at [livejournal.com profile] ishara, who was immensely helpful in sorting me out.

I value my mother's opinion. It's hard not to feel the influence, but I'm not going to let it dictate my life. So I'm still going on the Round-The-World. And yes, I will be away for 10 weeks, from the start of October until maybe the middle of December.

[livejournal.com profile] twilightdweller? I'm thinking about Arizona in early October if that offer's still open. And probably Massachusetts or Pennsylvania in early November. (Is it likely to be snowing by then?) When's the Fall Break for universities?

The family trip to China doesn't start until the 3rd December, so I'm thinking either I'll put back the Winter Wonderland tour a week and spend a little more time up in the North East US, or go for some time in the London area. London's kinda expensive, though. I'd either have to stay with someone or minimise time. Europe is a more interesting prospect, although cold. The cold is not a good prospect.

I think I'm going to want to stay in one place for a while, just sit tight and hold on and not go anywhere between tours. I know that [livejournal.com profile] beefree88 has offered, and I'd love to at least meet up with [livejournal.com profile] stef94 if she's in Holland and not assigned somewhere else.

Well, I'm going to book the tours tomorrow, anyway. The flights can wait a little while until I've got a few more things sorted out. Like where on Earth I'm going to go!

Wherever I end up going, I'm going to have to really *work* on screwing up my body clock this time. I don't want to spend most of the first 5 days recovering from jet-lag again. That was narsty last year.

Sadly, Ontario looks too far north for me to venture this time.

However, apparently 2008 is going to be Vancouver. So I might take the time to do some travelling through Canada in the Canadian summer so I don't freeze my ass off.
