TITLE: A Brief History Of SG1
SUMMARY: Daniel's stalling. Jack can't help but wonder what's in it for him.
RATING: PG-13
NOTES: Set between Seasons 8 and 9, and is more implied SJ than actual. Written for [livejournal.com profile] slm76, who produced the prompt: 'library book'. I'm not sure I can make 'library book' pornographic. Unless it's a pornographic library book, I suppose; or if I set it in [livejournal.com profile] shermer_high, or make it some kind of alien Kama Sutra. Hm. That's an idea: the Kama Sutra of the Jaffa Nation...

A Brief History Of SG1

Jack didn't see why Daniel couldn't wait by the dining table instead of wandering around the room, poking at things while he waited for Jack to grab his jacket before they headed out to meet Carter and Teal'c for dinner.

He didn't see why Daniel had insisted on coming by to pick him up, either. If Jack recalled correctly (and granted, he might be getting old, but he wasn't going senile) it was Daniel who was the cheap date.

Daniel gently blew the dust off an old photograph of SG-1 - a really old one since Daniel's hair still brushed his collar, then tilted his head to see the spines of the books on the shelf.

Military history, military maneuvres. Tactics, assessments, and assorted histories of Air Force fighter planes.

"I'm ready to go," Jack said, rocking back on his heels when Daniel showed no intention of moving anywhere.

"Um. Yeah." Daniel murmured with the absent-mindedness of a man who was no longer in the here-and-now. Usually, it meant he was in the back-and-then, but since Jack was pretty sure that nothing in his house was of an era to be of any academic interest to Daniel (with perhaps the exception of the archaeological book on Ancient Egyptian culture that Daniel had given him that first year they were on a team together), Jack had a feeling the other man was stalling.

Daniel grinned and picked up the topmost book on the pile. It was Stephen Hawkings' A Brief History Of Time, borrowed from the SGC library. "Light reading, huh?"

Jack rolled his eyes. "For some. Are we going?"

Blue eyes twinkled at him. "Sam wanted her copy back?"

"It's not like she needs it," Jack grumbled.

"No. You've only had it for six years," Daniel pointed out, dropping the book and heading for the door, much to Jack's relief. "We're going."

It wasn't until they were in the car that Daniel mentioned the topic Jack had been hoping to avoid entirely. "You know, I'm still not sure I believe Sam's reasons for taking the Nevada job."

Jack shrugged as they turned out of his street. "They're her reasons."

"Are they?" Daniel stopped at a four-way intersection and waited for the cars on the other sides to go. Jack deliberately glanced out the passenger window, apparently studying the house on the corner, which was for sale.

"Daniel, it might have escaped your notice, but Carter can make her own decisions."

Daniel didn't take the hint. "I just thought that...maybe she was taking into consideration some...other factors."

Fine. Daniel wanted to address this head-on, Jack was going to meet him head-on. "If there are fish in that pond, you're not going to be hauling any of them out, Daniel. Carter's decisions are her own business." And mine, now.

Jack didn't say that - he didn't need to.

The look on the other man's face was insufferably smug. "All right then."

It wasn't until they were out on the main road that Jack dared to ask, "So how much money did you win off Teal'c for asking me that?"

Daniel grinned. "A hundred."

"Great. You're buying the drinks tonight!"

*grin*
Yep, that's definitely a scene I could see happening. Especially Jack knowing that Daniel and Teal'c had been betting on it lol

Now, who said it had to be pornographic, huh? Although I'd be interested to see the Jaffa version of the Karma Sutra *g*

Hee, they would totally be betting on it, too. *g*

"Carter's decisions are her own business." And mine, now.
