"Foreigner" by CJ Cherryh
Sep. 11th, 2007 08:41 pmI'm loving this.
It's everything that Stargate Atlantis could have been and wasn't.
They could have done a lot more with Elizabeth Weir if they'd made her more like Bren Cameron and set up the Pegasus situation with atevi. Of course, then they wouldn't be able to show Earth's superiority, Sheppard's innate Mary-Sueness, or blow things up half as often as they did. And your average American probably wouldn't watch it.
Anyway, the really exciting thing? There are other books in the series! More reading material!

Only problem is, that would focus the show around a) the women, b) the diplomacy angle.

Actually, if Cherryh was a fanfic writer, she'd be a whumper. I'm four chapters into the next story, and she's pushing her lead character way beyond his endurance limit. I'm kinda waiting for him to completely collapse.
