In the absence of any contact or response from my contacts in the UK, I went ahead and booked my places to stay.

After returning from my continental tour...

Oxford St Youth Hostel, London:
arr: 13 Nov 07
dep: 17 Nov 07

York International Hostel, York:
arr: 17th Nov 07
dep: 22nd Nov 07

Then I'll be staying with a friend in London (Para) and catching up with [livejournal.com profile] purple_cube, my cousin (Tina), and hopefully [livejournal.com profile] agriope23, before heading out from London on the long flight home.

I picked York because [livejournal.com profile] slm76 said that York has a variety of different angles and museums and a lot of history.

I still intend to see [livejournal.com profile] beefree88 in a future trip, but the logistics of flying out to Hungary and back weren't practical for the situation this time. Next time I go through Europe, I think I'll take the really slow-and-adventurous route, flying into the East and touring my way through the countries via trains and hostels.

(Hey, that's adventurous for me!)

Meanwhile, back in Philadelphia, we're watching the Rockies having their Asses Kicked by the Red Socks, in between snatches of the game between Penn State and Ohio State.

*waves at [livejournal.com profile] snoggingpicard*

I'm kinda disappointed that the hockey games between Boston and Philadelphia are in Boston while I'm in Philly, and in Philly when I'm in Boston. One of these years I'll get to an American football game live and an ice hockey game live. I've already done a baseball game in SF with [livejournal.com profile] allisnow.

Oh, and a UK/European football (soccer) game. :D

More on Philly later. I'm still trying to scrape Disneyland together!

*waves back* Watching the game too. As much as I wish I could make excuses for PSU's performance...Ohio is just waaaaaay impressive. I'm happy with Morelli and the defense tonight, and we've played pretty solid. Ohio is just BETTER. And very awesome to watch. I can't let anyone else on this campus hear me say that for fear of a beating. ;)

Hope Philly is FANTASTIC!!!! :D

Ahhhh...never mind on that Morelli thing. That interception was a wee bit painful. >.<

That 'intercept' was hardly an intercept at all - he practically threw it to the Ohio player!

That was a huuuuuge *cringe* moment.

I'm guessing you're not actually at the game, then? :)

He's been playing pretty evenly all night...of course that couldn't last! :P

And yeah, I wasn't able to get season tickets this year (they sold out in 58 minutes). I've been writing out flashcards and stuff while I watch. There's a loooot coming up in the next two weeks for me.

Yeah, round two. One next Friday, report draft on Friday, and three more exams Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday the week after. Blaaaaaah. Thanksgiving break can't come fast enough!

Ahhhhh. That helps my heart. :) Oh, JoePa, you're sooooo cute!!! He looks so...curmudgeonly on the sidelines. Cutest old man EVER.

A 97-yard run...gotta be impressed with that!

Oh well, Penn State had their nice moment with the run and the TD. But yeah, Ohio definitely was playing better.

They were. I'm not disappointed with our game. I mean, we played really badly against Michigan a few weeks back, and that just pissed me off. Playing really solidly against a superior team and losing is okay. Playing sloppy is not. Good game, though. :)

Certainly interesting to watch a college football game with knowledgeable people :)

Yeah, how much football do you get to see back at home, anyways?

Plenty of rugby league and aussie rules if I want to turn on the TV. :) I can watch the soccer on SBS.

If I had cable, I could watch one of the ESPN channels 24x7 if I liked.

But American football? Not so much. Hence the amazement that I managed to get In The Game even vaguely correct. :)

I love In The Game! You've done a great job with that fic (and all the football details as well)!

Well, I'm off to bed...early morning of flashcards tomorrow. *hugs* Enjoy Philly!

Heh. Well, we should be getting to bed as well. Today was the day of zonkage - it was all we could do to get to the UPenn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Meeting [livejournal.com profile] ileliberte at Reading Market Terminal tomorrow, so probably should be a little more awake. :)

G'night!

Sel, I'm sorry. The last few days have been very difficult & I 've barely been online at all. Mum was rushed to an emergency appointment with the GP (Doc) on Thurs and while we still don't know for sure what's wrong with her (waiting to see a consultant) it's looking very much like she is going to have to have a hysterectomy. I think you did the right thing booking your accommodation because I honestly can't say what either of us are going to be doing for the next few months now. Sorry to let you down like this, but with Mum's condition hanging over our heads I doubt either of us would be very good company at the moment anyway.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. I hope they work out what's wrong with her!

And I'm sorry that I won't get to see you and Averil this trip.

*hugs*

I would have loved to have met you, but sadly I cannot afford a trip up to london.

Hope you have a fantastic time in the UK.

Are you still going to SG12?

I'm sorry I won't get to meet you!

And yes, I'll be at the SG12 hotel with [livejournal.com profile] venom69, but I haven't got a ticket for the actual convention, so it'll just be me at the hotel, lurking in the corners and watching all the fannish people wandering by. :)

Drop me a line about what time you want to meet up in Amsterdam next Sunday. I know a great place for late lunch/dinner and I wouldn't mind showing you around a teensy in the afternoon, if you have time of course :-)
