arrival in London
Nov. 2nd, 2007 03:26 pmThe flight from Dulles, DC was delayed due to mechanical failure. We were supposed to leave at 11pm. By the time we got the show on the road, it was around 1:30am. Repeated delays and delays and delays... So we only got to London around midday.
The London weather loves me. Even if the buses and the transport system doesn't. The weather is sunny and clear, if very Sydney-winter. (ETA: clouds coming over now at 2:30pm, but still sun in the west.)
I'm presently trying to catch one of the hotel buses to the SG12 hotel where I'll be staying with
venom69, only the bus hasn't turned up, and several other buses have made multiple rounds already. It's a little annoying, in fact. Not even one bus in half an hour?
Also, my body is trying to tell me that it's early morning, since the time of day in the US corresponds and the weather says "morning" to me, with its peculiar chill that I expect to dissipate as we reach midday. However, it's 2:30pm according to the clock. So this is probably about as warm as it's going to get.
One dreads nightfall.

The bus finally turned up...and I arrived at the hotel, which looks quite nice in the lobby, although I just looked at the menu and my bank account has had a heart-attack. It's pretty much the value I'd pay in Australia...but in British pounds.
I think that I shall starve during this portion of the trip when I'm by myself.
It's been a while since I arrived at a convention with very little idea of who was who. These days, when I attend conventions, I'm already known to and known by the group I'm with - if I don't arrive with them outright. And some of the fans I've seen in the lobby are...fannish. That is, you could glance at them and guess that they were probably sci-fi fans just by looking.
That's mean, I know. But true in an awful way. All that gothy clothing and makeup, eyepatches, and the pasty look of people who don't get out much and who exercise less.
Anyway, Ky hasn't yet arrived and checked in, so I'm sititng here, looking like a Complete Geek with my lappy out, typing away. Yes, I am quite capable of geeking out in the midst of geeky people. The difference is, but for the feet on the chair, I'd possibly pass as a businessperson working. I've done it before, anyway!
Will make a post with the touristy Boston pics later.
