Noise Pollution: Mondegreens: a column about music and songs - and this one is about misheard lyrics.

The article is funny. The comments - in which people are invited to share their own personal mondegreens - are hilarious.

Before you read it, however, guess the songs from which these lyrics were misheard. And try not to exhale coffee through your nose. It's not a good look!

1. "If you like being a koala..."
2. "I had my first real sex dream..."
3. "I'll never let your pizza burn..."
4. "Dirty deeds and they're done to sheep..."
5. "I am still living with your goat.."
6. "Whose gonna shave me?"
7. "Look out I might sail on you..."
8. "Santa victorious happy and glorious..."
9. "One ton tomato..."
10. "There's a bathroom on the right..."

Although, I gotta say, there's nothing like this Australian National Anthem mondegreen:

"Australians all let us ring Joyce, for she is young and free!"

LOL those are great! It's like when you ask little kids what they think they words to a song are, you get some shockers!! :-)

#4. Y'know, AC/DC might have really been singing tongue firmly in cheek about their adopted country ;)

I love misheard lyrics! I once knew a girl who thought the lyric "Let freedom reign with a shotgun blast" from a Machinehead song was "Never agree with the shark of death"

Quality :)

Oh, and when I was little I thought "Every time you go away, you take a piece of me with you" from a Paul Young song was "Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you". In my family, that song is now known as "The Meat Song" in my honour!

Okay, read the article now :) I saw something similar on the BBC last week. I'm surprised that neither article mentioned the deliberate Mondegreen by Queen at the end of One Vision. Fried chicken, indeed!

Mentions of Midnight Oil and Aussie Crawl have surprised me. I think I'm going to have to dig out my albums and give them another listen. I'm still not entirely convinced how you can mishear Beautiful People though. (Although I do now have "the garden's full of furniture, the house is full of plants" stuck in my head.)

I almost died from laughter when I read Starship's "We built this city on the wrong damn road". :D That's a hilarious article. I think that there's probably very few people who know the actual lyrics to 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.

My mom's mondegreen happened this weekend when I asked if a lyric by the Raspberries was actually "Please, go all the way". My step-dad said it was, and my mom revealed that she'd always sung it as "Please, go away" (even thought the lyrics after it are "just hold me close, don't ever let me go"). *g*
