It seems that, so far, the US version of Kath and Kim hasn't received a good rap from the critics.

Colour me unsurprised.

If any of my f-list end up watching it, I'd be curious about your input - especially if you've actually seen the Australian Kath and Kim.

I have not really watched either, but was speaking to a friend at work who had watched the Australian version and looked at the US one and they said that it definitely was not the same. This was partly because the women in the roles looked more like they should be on 90210 than K&K, so not ordinary westies, but also because it just didn't have the same over the top feel that made the Australian version so funny.

K&K is very satirical. It just doesn't seem like something that would make it to US mainstream TV.

Right, because satirical TV just doesn't seem to go over well here. American comedy tends to be a lot more slapstick or in your face. Which is why Monty Python is fairly popular in some ways, but shows like Yes, Minister are not.

I heard that too, and I'm not surprised either.

Apparently, several of the 'remakes from other countries' haven't been doing so well - Life On Mars was a bit of a shocker, so my US friends tell me.

I didn't realise LOM had already started in the US. I wonder if it's available online anywhere...

And my mum and I have always loved K&K. In fact, last year I bought her a noice, unusewal apron with Kath on the front which I had shipped over from Oz. I can't believe this version is going to be any good at all.

(I need a K&K icon!)

Oh man, I LOL'd!

I don't think it actually shows until Thursday night in the US - these are probably critics who were given preview copies to watch or something.

Is there going to be a new aussie series, do you know?

I have no idea! I don't actually watch the show myself, although I've seen a few episodes. Most of my commentary during the episodes consists of the words: "Oh, no!" *facepalm*

Oh it's brilliant. Really very funny. This is my fave bit from the first series http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3p6a9muXMQM

I have seen bits of the Aussie one and I think it's one of the worst shows that I have ever seen.

I cannot see that it is funny in anyway.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't know anyone here who likes it.
