Christmas ramblings

No
yuletide this year. Fun as it was last year, I don't think I have the time to get stories in by the 10th (or whenever they're due). Too much already on the plate, plus NaNo. I'm rather saddened by this, but I suspect it will be on next year, too. And maybe things won't be so mad-insane-crazy next year. And Piglet Airlines will have their own airport out near Bankstown.
I can get ten days of holiday in the Christmas-New Year period, simply by taking three days of (paid!woohoo!) annual leave. I think I'll take it. They won't be authorising any other holidays until Easter, and I don't plan to take any other holidays until at least September. (DragonCon!)
Current plans for New Years' include inviting the handful of friends I have in Sydney around for a New Year's Day BBQ dinner...or something. Or even some time in the days between the Christmas-New Year period - say, a Friday or Saturday night. It would be lovely to have an end-of-year party with my friends, just park and lounge and BBQ and drink and chat and gossip.... And the parental house is so well-set-out for entertaining! (Plus, it has a pool!)
I should dry my hair and get to bed. I've been short on sleep lately, and today was moderately hellish, trying to work out how to do this one thing.
Didn't even manage to get it done in the end. Goodbye 5 hours. BLECH.
On the up-side, NaNo is clinging to life:
NaNo count: 18,700.
Story length: 62,555.
Hours of sleep: not enough!

Date: 2008-11-11 07:46 pm (UTC)The reason I didn't come this year ws because I didn't have a) leave, b) money.
By September next year, I should have both. Once I get paid this week, I should be able to see how much I can save... :)

Date: 2008-11-11 07:51 pm (UTC)It was such fun last year and my stories got good responses, so I'm rather wistful at not playing this year. *sighs*
NaNo's one of those things that I really do think anyone can stretch themselves to do - it takes discipline (and possibly the Write Or Die (http://lab.drwicked.com/writeordie.html) app that I've been telling everyone about for the last few weeks).
I've done NaNo every year for the last 5 years before this one. Only ever failed last year, and I had the excuse that I was in Europe.
