The world premiere of the new Star Trek Movie is in Sydney, at the Sydney Opera House, April 7th, 7pm, to be red-carpet attended by JJ Abrams, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Karl Urban, and other stars of the movie.

And I have tickets.

I was tipped off by a friend from the sci-fi group I attend. The friend in question was going to get tickets for himself, his aunt, and me, (internet, phone, and his aunt). Luckily, I figured that it would be worth my trying to get tickets as well - if we all ended up with tickets, we could sell them, easy - went into the site and somehow managed to get 3 tickets.

Damned if I know how, considering that two minutes before the box office opened every phone line was engaged, and I had to refresh the page twice to get the site working. Every ST fan in Sydney and some besides was probably trying for these tickets.

I probably could have asked for more tickets, but the law of seating goes: the more tickets you want to book, the harder it is to book them.

When I called my friend to let him know that I had tickets, the next two minutes of conversation were pretty much, "Oh my God!" "You're kidding me!" "You're not serious!" "Oh my God, I'm going to the Star Trek world premiere!" I let him know that I pwn his ass into the next century, and that he should put his head down between his knees and take deep breaths before he faints. Then he should call his aunt to let her know she had a ticket, and hold the phone away from his ear so he wasn't deafened by her squeal.

The really ironic part? I have watched a grand total of three Star Trek episodes. That's when you cut-and-paste all the parts of episodes that I've seen into the time taken for a whole episode.

Although, really, if you think about it, I'm exactly the person that they want to watch this movie. Someone who's never been in the ST franchise, comes to it from a new perspective, and is willing to become a fan.

Now, all I have to do is explain to another friend why I can't make the theatre play we were going to that same night - ironically at the exact same location (the Opera House) although obviously a different hall.

That. Is. Awesome. Enjoy!!!!

Heh, with my budget at the moment, I'll be seeing it on cheap ass Tuesday :P But then again, release is around my birthday so I might see it in the extra special cinemas. Either way, can't wait!

Nothing wrong with cheap-ass Tuesday. I'd see movies on cheap-ass Tuesday...if I didn't have hockey traning...

And extra-special cinemas are always good. :)

LOL.

Incidentally, that was the night that Jean Prouvaire (not his real name) and I were going to see Travesties.

Have you heard from him lately? He isn't answering my mails.

It does! My big stumbling block with ST has always been the datedness of the original. We'll see how we go with the 'modern' version.

I probably would have gone with the sci-fi group if they'd organised a screening. But this works, too. :)

It's rather neat. We don't usually get red carpet premieres here in Australia (unless it's a movie made by Bas Luhrmann), so it's a rare opportunity.

I'm sure I will. I'm rather looking forward to this movie - and even if the movie's a flop, the experience should be good.

Have you seen the new Transformers movie trailers, yet?
