oh life, why must you do this?

yuletide assignments are...interesting. Oddly enough, the option I'm going to take is not the option that I was given the assignment for. This happened two years ago as well - I was given a request for...something. Some obscure fandom that I saw and thought, "yeah, I can write that" and then realised I couldn't, and took the Cadfael option instead (which turned out pretty damn nice if I say so myself).
Anyway, this year, my chosen option is based on this wonderful sci-fi series. However, I only have the second book in the series, not the first (which I read years ago and was intrigued enough to buy the second) - and it is old. As in, published in 1983.
I bet half the people reading this post weren't even born in 1983!
Anyway, I'm looking at the first book on Amazon right now. $0.77...with $12.97 postage. (OOH moment: she wrote a THIRD BOOK to the series!!) I'd ask for someone in the US to acquire it and send it on, but the timely mailing of things from the US tends to backfire on me BIGTIME, and I need the book NOW. (or at least, in the next couple of weeks.) *sigh*
This isn't going to go well, is it?
And I got paid on Friday, and every penny that I got paid is now gone to pay a bill (or my mother, who probably could have waited, but if I didn't pay her, I never would). I have enough to cover my mortgage for the next four weeks, and that's about it. *another sigh* Financial woes.
Thank heavens for BPAL Sales. Not that too much of it is selling at this moment. Humph.

Incidentally, Hand Of Isis isn't available in 'proper book' format yet? WTF? *pokes gingerly at Kindle option* I don't have a Kindle. I don't want a Kindle! Kindle isn't comfy and tactile and you can't fall asleep with it face down on your chest. Well, you can, but when you wake up in the morning, you can't curse that you've got a split down the spine. Yes, I know, the spine-split and the cursing, but...you know, soft and tactile and inky! Plus, being able to stick a finger in the page while you flip back to another part you just want to cross-reference. VERY IMPORTANT.

Hand Of Sel is aching a bit, but much better since the doc gave me an arm-tube for support and compression of the muscles, and the massaging exercises. It twinges a little, but it's not as bad as it was. The part with the throbbing mostly happens with hockey. Maybe a bit at the gym, too.
I haven't been writing as much as I'd like because of it. And it's so frustrating. Although I'm mostly feeling the FAIL right now over a variety of things.

Work...I'm increasingly beginning to worry that once the contractors leave at the end of January, I'll end up unable to keep up with the work. At least, not without wearing myself down to a nubbin. There's a long story behind that.
The sistren were watching Twelfth Night before, and now I want to go look for fanfic on the Yuletide Archive. That would be a BIG MISTAKE. BIG. HUGE.
