I've already done this over at my fannish journal several months ago, but I'm doing this because I've heard rumours about Sam/Jack shippers and I suspect I have more Sam/Jack shippers reading this than not.

So, forthwith, let there be polling!

I'm not into SGA enough to read SGA fanfic, so paying for books doesn't work for me. In addition, Fandy's obsession with all things Daniel in the past has pretty much soured me on them. I haven't bought one of their books in years.

I"m sure some SGA fans, though, will thoroughly love the books. It will be interesting, though, as massively fractured as the SGA fandom is if the books manage to navigate that mine field or if they mimic the show in picking a couple of characters or slant to the stories that ends up catering to only one side of the fandom, ignoring the rest.

Heh. Almost no Daniel in these books. He gets a mention a couple of times, I think. :D

I'm rather curious about that, too. Then again, this is SGA fandom - the simple way to keep the most fans happy is to write as though the sun shines out of Rodney's ass...

I missed the boat with SGA as I lost my Sky channel around the same time that it started, I tried and tried to like it but the impetus was lost.

What rumours did you hear about S&J 'shippers? *curious*

Oh, that the Sam/Jack shippers over on Gateworld were getting into a panic because someone who isn't one of the authors and hasn't read the series claimed the series contained Sam/John Sheppard.

*bites lip*

S&J 'shippers panicking? Surely not :D

Well, the hilarious part is that the book is actually very pro-Sam/Jack. I don't know if it's particularly obvious, but as an S/J shipper, while reading the drafts, there are definitely hints and indications in the first novel.

You know, I think you'd really like this series. If it were a fanfic, I'd be reccing it to people who enjoy all the team and ginormous gen plotlines.

I've said yes I'd read, but the more accurate answer is yes I'd give them a go depending on the character mix! Admittedly given season 5 of Atlantis suffered for me for having ditched both of my previous favourite characters by then. But it's rare that I won't give anything Stargate related a try.

What if I said that the writers are taking a "Sam is in a relationship with Jack" approach? As in, the story isn't about them or their relationship, and it's not explicitly said until, oh, the third book, but it's very much there?

Then that's a big point in it's plus corner. Heck, the story shouldn't be about them or their relationship, not in those books, especially given Sam's no longer a main character by the time the show ended. But as a background thing for me to have fun picking up every now and again I'm more than happy.

So long as the rest isn't too Rodney-heavy, it's all good. Some things aren't worth even little snippets of S/J!

Oh, no, not too Rodney heavy. He has a plotline - they all do - but the story isn't about any one of them at all.

Good good :-) Sounds promising then!

I got lost in Season 4 SGA, I've tried picking it up a couple of times... but it seems so trite sometimes and fails to engage me. BSG has ruined me.

BSG is really really good TV, I have to admit. Although RDM made me want to tear my hair out with some of the storylines. (Really, RDM, you don't have to make everything bad/terrible/angsty/despairing. CAN HAZ HOPE, NAOW?)

SGA...it's the possibilities inherent in the story framework that attracted me most I think. The show writing was extremely average.

BSG felt very 'closed canon' to me - I couldn't work with it in a writing sense. It was amazing TV drama, but the storyteller in me felt like I had nowhere to go - and I found it harder to work with the characters of BSG because so many of them tended to spiral down into Bad Places. Understandable, given the context of the show and their situation, but difficult for me to write.

Ah but I like going away satisfied and not feeling like I've been ripped off and have to turn elsewhere to fill the gaps. Laziness I know, but it's like going out for dinner and being told to bring your own dessert!

Heh. I guess it depends what you want out of a show! :)
