Life is kinda quiet right now. Still applying for jobs, although it looks like they're going farther afield...again. There's a couple of months' contract in Brisvegas going. Not exactly happy about that. It would wreck church, bible study, writing group, and hockey - which is pretty much the entirety of my social life, such as it is - but if I can hold a job for three months...it's something, anyway. And it would get me back on my feet.

Think of it as working in San Francisco while living in LA.

Ah well, I'd have to get the job first.

Anyway, my first scrap quilt:
angled askew

Made from the leftovers of fabrics I've used in other quilts, it's looking pretty good... Except that I feel like it needs more yellow, bright green, and hot pink. But that could just be me. Thoughts?

All the best with getting that job, although of course something much closer to home would be better.

I think the quilt looks good as it is. The red is obviously the most prominent, but it's not overwhelming and already balanced by the other colours.

Ditto the prior comment - the red is a nice dominant, with pops of color to keep it from being overwhelming. If anything, maybe a different, more centered placement for the bright blue piece in the top left quadrant?

Ugh on the job front. I hope something works out, and annoyingly you're most probably more likely to get a job while you have one, so maybe you could look for another job while you have the 3 month one. Also, I'm sure the money would help.

I really like this quilt. It looks fun. I know what you mean about something to balance the bright light blue a bit, but in saying that it looks fine as it is. If you have anymore of the bright light blue, maybe a couple more triangles somewhere, but in saying this, before I read your comments, I thought it looked fine as is :D

It also depends on what the border is going to be or the binding.

Try calling it a Crazy Quilt.

more fun that way...and I think it looks great.

oh, that's nice! :)

When did you want to go fabric shopping? I'm free next Sunday (if the place is open).

I just feel like it needs something bright to give it a bit of zing!

Hm. Good point about the bright blue. I'll keep an eye out when I lay it all out again. (It had to be pulled up because we were moving things around in the space where it was.)

Yeah, this happens every time!

I'm a bit...indecisive about the border/binding right now. I was thinking a thin cream/background border, and then perhaps a border of chequered scraps?

I always imagined a crazy quilt would be, well...crazy! This one is orderly and patterned and neat...ish. Maybe not square. :)

I think next Sunday may actually be doable. 26th Feb, right?

And yes, it's open on Sundays from...11 to 3pm I think. It's a short window, but if we don't find what we want, we can always hie off to either Top Ryde or Belrose, both of which have fabric store alternatives.

I do love the block layout - I feel like I should try it with some more cohesive prints...

This could work. What solid colour would you use to bind it off with though? red maybe?

More scraps? I hadn't really thought about it terribly much, although I have all manner of darker bits and pieces that would go together nicely for a good look.

If you used more scraps would it make it too busy maybe or is that the overall look you like? One clean colour might just hold it all in, but I tend to go for the less busy look myself, as a personal preference, so this may not work for you.

Whatever I say, all your quilts look fantastic and you have made great choices

Hm. I'm not sure. I guess I'm just a bit reluctant to use any one colour for binding seeing as the rest of it is so nicely scrappy.

I guess it's one of those 'wait and see' things where I wait until I"ve got it all together and then make a decision!

It's a date! Meet outside the fabric store in PH (it's the one on PH road, beside the hotel, right?) at 11am?
