Second last day here in Sacramento: where does the time go? One week more here on holiday, then homeward-ho! It's been a lovely experience, and so much fun to catch up with people, but on the tail end of such trips, I always find myself longing for home again. *hums 'I Still Call Australia home'*

Have been struck by two new original fiction bunnies in the last couple of weeks, made notes, trying to work out what to do with them and where to take them. Hate it.

On the other hand, created 10 BSG icons yesterday. Will get them up when I find a reasonable connection.

Responses to f-list, 'cos I'm on [livejournal.com profile] pandora_576's connection and it's pretty slow.
- *hugs* to [livejournal.com profile] venom69, [livejournal.com profile] mebfeather, [livejournal.com profile] saramund, and [livejournal.com profile] angelsasha, none of whom are feeling good. (*gnaws fingernails for [livejournal.com profile] angelsasha's tests*)
- [livejournal.com profile] gwemegil, love the fic. Bewdiful. :)
- [livejournal.com profile] chiroho, it's not how many are dead, it's who is dead, and how important they are in the scheme of things. Western world counts. Others don't.[/cynical]
- [livejournal.com profile] arabel, the live drawing class on mondays sounds wonderful - if I'm in Sydney at the time. Goth dress looks nice. One of these days you're going to have to show me how you actually do that and make it look nice.
- [livejournal.com profile] suds_from_aus, I'd love to hear about how the 'hijab' wearing went. Did you actually experience discrimination while wearing it, or were your comments from more general observation?

And I have to admit that [livejournal.com profile] venom69's query to her f-list is one I occasionally have myself. Why do you have me friended? Fic? Opinions? We've met/spoken/chatted? Fangirl/boy?

Right. I'm off. I have a couple of eps of MacGyver to watch (okay, maybe just the pilot - any recs for Season 1 Mac eps?), plus 'Tok'ra II' and 'It's Good To Be King'. 'Affinity' optional. Very optional, I think.

*sings*

And no-one in all of Oz,
No wizard that there ever was,
Is ever going to bring me down!

[livejournal.com profile] wiliqueen? 'Wicked' is very addictive. Amazing track.

D'oh! I should have known that! [slaps self on head]

'cause you're Sel and I'm Rob. Do I need another reason? ;)

I <3 Wicked. It's right up there with The Scarlet Pimpernel as one of the best shows ever.

I can't remember why I friended you to begin with, but you write very well and aren't batshit. :D

And I've just had a vision almost like a prophecy
I know it sounds truly crazy, and true, the vision's hazy
But I swear someday there'll be a celebration throughout Oz
That's all to do with me...

Gah. Fabulous show.

It's a fun show, although I think I really preferred the book more. There's really more depth to the book.

They're barely recognizable from each other, true, but I love them both in their own way.

I know what you mean. Trips are great fun, but they make you nostalgic for normality sometimes. Hope the end of your trip is relaxing, and that the last few legs go smoothly.

Hmmmm....

Most of my friends list (you included) is made up of the authors whose fanfic I lurved long before I'd even /heard/ of live journal. But I friended people (you included) whose journals were interesting. So I guess I fall into the fangirl category, but I continue to read your jrnl for more than just sg fic.

Why do you have me friended?

You really want to know? I'm pretty sure I friended you for fic. I think I came across your LJ when you were writing the 12 Days of Christmas (and if that wasn't you, I've just embarrassed myself horribly) and I friended you catch the rest of them. And also because I really like your SG fic that I'd read before that. Also, I like reading your LJ. :)

Do you honestly not know why? ;) *noogies*

General observations. You don't tend to get outright comments so much here in tas (outside of the schoolyard that is). It's more something that grabs people's attention and makes them curious/wary.

In kingston I had a LOT of looks. Especially in the bank! Not so much in the city itself, but then Kingston is known for primarilly being a conservative, dutch, Christian community.

I would be interested (translation: scared) to wear a'Hijab' in Moonah, Chigwell, Campbell town or somewhere of equally lowered socioeconomic status. I have a feeling there may be more of a response there. OR to wear it out somewhere in the evening. I don't think I will though, I value my safety over my need for satisfying my curiousity ;)

People I knew commented along the lines of 'urrrr...?' or 'Oh! I thought you were a muslim'.

It's interesting, because I wore a headscarf like this a couple of years back and got comments along the lines of 'you look like a good brethern girl' not 'you look like a muslim'.

It's hard to tell what people were thinking exactly, but it definately drew attention, which I personally feel is absurd. I understand it, but I think it's bizarre that such a simple (and modest) item of clothing should draw such attention. Interesting experiment though *g*

And I friended you because I met you and you were nice *g* Before then I deliberately didn't friend you, because I knew that just because I knew who you were, that you didn't know who I was, and personally I wouldn't like to be 'friended' for being a 'BNF'.

Oh, and the comments in my actual post were more in regards to the general climate of Australian culture (particularly the media) and the way it thinks about and treats muslims. Mostly spurred on by Bronwyn Bishop's recent comments that she believes the Hijab should be banned from being worn in public schools as it iconises the clash of Australian culture and Islam (words to that effect).

Why do you have me friended?

Fic mostly, but I'm enjoying getting to hear more about the lives (and travels) of some of the authors whose fan fic I most enjoy.
