Once again, [livejournal.com profile] allisnow gets me into a new show.

[livejournal.com profile] jalara? You were right on the money, hon. A strong, kickass, not-prone-to-showing-her-emotions woman with a sensible streak as wide as the Beltway. I like.

It's a good show. Some of the acting seems a little unsubtle, but the lines are good and it's nice to watch something and not feel "I've seen this character/situation/enemy/achilles' heel/weapon/planet before..." which is what tends to happen in SGA. And it's fun guessing at who's the killer.

Oddly enough, this is a show that I can watch while eating dinner. Although I sorta wince at the maggots.

The difficulty with writing fic for this series is that anything not geared towards romance is naturally going to be very technical in aspect which most people don't cope well with when it comes to writing fic. They can do the romance and relationships - obviously, we all have feelings, emotions, thoughts, desires - but the detail of action-adventure is trickier - especially if you have people who might nitpick in your area. And we're all scared of the nitpick. Well, not scared exactly. But I feel a sense of shame when I've written a paragraph or two around something technical and someone comes in and corrects me - I didn't do my research well enough.

It would be interesting though: I've only ever written for fandoms with a strong sci-fi or fantasy element, so this would be new. We'll see.

the show gets better the further into the season it goes! You should so write fic, then I can read it and know who the characters are ;)

LOL. You mean you don't know who the characters are the further into the season that you watch?

*g*

Have you seen the Christmas episode yet? It is beyond sweet. I normally hate holiday themed episodes because they seemed so forced. This one still makes me smile.

I have! It was the first episode I saw. And, yes, it was both sweet and heartbreaking.

Ooh! Can't wait for you to write Bones!

They were at Comic-Con last year, and I felt so badly for David cuz all the "Angel" fangirrrrls were there asking only about "Angel". And they were there to promote "Bones".

I read through some of my old 'Angel' fanfic, and felt really weird thinking of DB as Angel, esp. since old haunted Angel isn't anything like Booth.

I love Bones - both my hubby and I enjoy watching it. Weirdly enough it isn't as gruesome as CSI likeminded programmes can be, plus as you said it is fun to guess who the murderer is.

Usually, my husband and I like totally different programmes so this is good.

It's rather odd: I never got into CSI that much. Interesting, yes, but...too dysfunctional with no real connectivity between the characters.

The cast really gels in this show.

yes, I totally agree with you on the 'gel'part of the show. And yes, I only like CSI, not the spin offs.

You must write Bones fic! I can't find any good fic wrters in this fandom. I promise not to nit pick over anything technical, not caring about it in the least.

*hugs* I have to work out a plotbunny first. It would be like solving a murder, only going backwards – which is probably another reason why there aren't too many non-romance stories.

Glad you like it!

One thing as the show progresses we get little tidbits about Bones' background. I'd love to see some fic that delves into that a lot more. *hint, hint*

You do realise that delving into Brennan's past would involve actual research about the Central American countries (had she been to Europe at some stage?) and their histories of violence and revolution? Unless you mean the more personal bits and pieces of her life.

The other thing is her 'voice': she's both passionate and didactic, and doesn't connect with people real well (if it comes to that, neither do I, although I am up on the pop-culture front), but I imagine it's difficult to capture.

I haven't found any decent writers, gen or rommance. I get to the first paragraph that has Temperence weeping and falling into Booth's strong manly arms and run for the hills.

Seriously? O_O

Okay, that's freaked up. Bones barely cries. And the only time (so far) that I've seen her lunge for Booth's 'strong manly arms' has been after the guy nearly shot her and Booth and the FBI came in to save her.

I have real difficulty envisioning an actual romance between them. I mean, I have no problem with the fact that they like each other and are physically attracted, but Bones is not the emotional type. The closest I can come right now is that they climb into bed with each other after something nearly gets them killed.
