Meet The Man: August 2010

Okay, I can get two days of leave but not four. Three is probably pushing it very close.
This would allow me to attend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the con, but would require me to fly out Friday morning, arrive Friday morning, and fly back Sunday night, ready for work on Tuesday morning (having skipped Monday entirely). The whole five days would be given over to flying up to Vancouver, attending the con, catching up with people, and flying back. By Tuesday morning, I will have spent at least 40 hours of the previous 110 in transit.
I can afford it; my yearly bonus came in and can go towards that.
The question is: should I?
I wouldn't be able to make the cocktail party, which is a big bummer, but that is easily saleable (if it hasn't already been sold by the GABIT folks - I haven't heard back from them), so it wouldn't be entirely a loss.
It's also my birthday weekend, which would be fantastic fun to do.

Date: 2010-03-17 07:46 pm (UTC)Although the question that's just come up is whether it's worth it. I hardly speak to anyone in SG1 fandom anymore (or they hardly talk to me) and I have no idea if anyone would want to see me anyway.
I could spend the whole weekend being a complete pariah because I'm out of SG1 and nobody wants to talk to me.

Date: 2010-03-17 08:12 pm (UTC)Pfft! Go for yourself - and no one else! :)
I also say do it if you can. To me, the most important day of a person's year is their birthday, so always make it the most enjoyable and memorable experience possible.

Date: 2010-03-18 09:24 am (UTC)I haven't been around for a while - I'm pretty sure I haven't even chatted to you guys in months. Lisa mentioned something in Bec's journal about you and D being down with the flu and I have D's last LJ post saved on a USB drive somewhere, just not read.
When you see me in Van, I will be completely zonked from the jetlag. You could probably hit me with a brick and I wouldn't notice it one bit. :)
